"Your mother was...special. I watched her grow. I watched my padawan..." He stopped and shook his head. "They were both stubborn." And foolish. Very, very foolish. "Your mother tried to stop Senator Palpatine from destroying what she worked so hard to preserve. She was a true friend to the Jedi Council, but her love for Anakin mislead her" Was he saying too much? He couldn't imagine so. She was old enough to know the truth, and with her adopted parents gone, it felt right.
She should know what a hero her mother was. And perhaps the tragedy of her father, if only to avoid his fate.
"It's strange to think you were never told. Your mother was one of the most powerful women in the Senate. She was very young when elected. But she was loved by her people. Papaltine fooled us all. Manipulated us into the Clone Wars and then..." He went quiet, staring a bit past Leia, towards the window before explaining.
"He tricked my apprentice. He...knew his weakness was Padme. He used Anakin's fear of losing her to twist his mind towards the Dark Side. And nothing Padme could say could bring him back. He wanted to protect her....but..." Obi-Wan felt his throat tighten. His eyes burned. He looked down at the table, staring hard. Willing himself to stay calm, taking a breath and fighting against emotion.
"There was nothing I could do. Nothing Padme could do- she tried, but he was too far gone. Palpatine had shown him a vision of her death. He thought he could stop it with enough power."
