Leia put out a hand on the table to find his, offering a sympathetic touch. "I’m sorry- I wish I had something more I could tell you." He had seemed so hopeful, too.
"I think my father’s strategy was that I’d stay in politics." Leia smiles fondly now, and whilst he’d simply wanted to protect her at first, he had not shied from presenting her with the opportunities to do good in the name of the Rebellion as soon as she had become a part of it.
"I know I was adopted at birth, a orphan of the Clone Wars." Leia muses, her hands back shift under the table with a feeling of slight uneasiness. "And I never felt the compulsion to ask." Her contentment with her family had been such. "They made no secret of my adoption, it was a public celebration on Alderaan I’m told." She means to assure Obi-Wan than it wasn’t at all a matter of secrecy - even if they had wanted it so, Leia does clearly not bear any physical resemblance to Bail, or Breha, that had to be explained.
"So, all I really have are feelings. From- as early as I can remember. My mother was very kind- but very sad." She’s reminded of what she told Luke when he’d asked - it made more sense now, of course, Luke had suggested maybe the feelings she’d had of their mother were the work of the Force. Leia hesitates now, her gaze dropping as apprehension rises within her - wondering if to continue is the right thing to do. No one, but Luke and Han know of her biological father, and she hoped all the tears she could shed over it were done now, but she never expected to speak on it again so soon, and had not intended to share the information with anyone else.
But this is different. Technically Obi-Wan, Ben Kenobi is the one who could have told Luke from the beginning, but he brought them together as brother and sister. Vader is linked to Obi-Wan. Maybe it’s information he needs, or at least deserves to know - whether she wants to talk about it or not.
"But- there is something. I know- about my biological father." She draws in a breath, clearly stealing herself. "It concerns information from your future- in fact it is information that you gave to us, when you’re older than you are now." If he didn't want her to go on, she wouldn't.
