Who: Nyx Ulric and Carol Danvers.
What: Nyx is showing off magic.
When: Saturday night.
Where: Panchos.
Rating: Low? Medium-rare? Who knows.

Nyx burned some time, before heading the direction he was supposed to go to meet this Carol Danvers. During his time he managed to scrounge up a black t-shirt so he wasn't going around any longer wearing his incinerated armor. At least he now looked something normal.

Spending the day learning his way around the network and exploring the area that they all now lived in left his day full. It was an uncomfortable feeling for the soldier to have nothing to do, so he naturally gravitated towards normal things that brought him about, but even that only lasted so long. Though the biggest thing he had learned about was that weird house with doors. Nyx hadn't had a chance to really check it out, and not that he'd dive in. Well, he would, but he thought it might be good to check around first and learn about a multidimensional house before using it.

Nyx walked, and checked out the damages that were still undergoing repairs as he approached Panchos. Quite the fight to cause that. Nyx had no where to talk. During his last fight, he assisted in demolishing Insomnia.

He at least won.

Walking in through the door of the bar and looked about. Finding a woman, he approached her. "Excuse me, miss." Nyx offered a polite smile, with his boyish charm. "I'm looking for Carol? She around?" Armed on his right thigh with the single kukri, he kept his hands behind his back. Old military habits you could say.

Carol was having a helluva 24 hours. Between having her cathartic drinking session with Natasha and whatever the hell happened with Constantine, she was wiped out. At the same time, there was work to do. The bar was probably a few more days in need of repair (mostly the wall now), but the shelves at least had something on them and the inside was clean.

Dimly lit and very empty, Carol was arranging bottles when someone came in. She figured it was Peter and finished arranging the vodkas before turning to look over her shoulder at a man she did not recognize. Another newcomer. They were everywhere these days. "Hey." She nodded, tilting her chin up in greeting before turning around to face him.

"I'm Carol. You are?" She raised an eyebrow before realizing who this might be. "Wait, are you Nyx?" He'd mentioned coming by, but she wasn't really expecting to see him. Cocking her head to the side, she was clearly inspecting the man, measuring him up. He had a manner about him that screamed "well-trained". Resting one hand on the bartop, another on her hip.

"Definitely a soldier. Want anything to drink?"

When she questioned him, Nyx smirked as she came full circle. With the stresses of this world, it didn't surprise him that he was already forgotten about. Hell, he'd of forgotten about himself too.

"I am." Nyx responded politely. "Flesh and blood even." Slowly Nyx took stock of the room they were in. IT was a bar alright. Nothing like the bar back home before Niflheim, but it was very obvious the pair of them came from very different times and places. Looking back to the relaxed notion, immediately relaxed the man.

Nyx responded to the soldier comment with a laugh. "To say the least." The Glaive found a spot at the bar to seat himself. "Server me something, or anything." Sure, Nyx played it quite dangerous.

"Sure thing, soldier." She reached for a bottle of vodka she'd just put down and grabbed a recently cleaned mug. That's all they had around here until hey bothered to look for shot glasses or anything else. Clint had been kind enough to provide the wares, but he'd probably want them back sometime. Pouring generously, she slid it over to Nyx and grabbed her own from under the bar, pouring even more generously for herself and promising this was not going to be a repeat of last night.

Nope. Just a couple of drinks. She'd stop after that.

When the bottle was again set down, she nodded at him and asked. "So...what's your story?" Carol was getting good at this bartender thing. And she was learning a lot about the people of this "town" of their's. Taking a sip from the vodka (notice it was only a sip instead of a full drink because she was convincing herself she could stop if she wanted), she waited for his answer. Something in her eyes, though, might have given Nyx the feeling that she was sizing him up.

Kree training and all, she always approached another soldier with caution. Or maybe that was just her time in the Airforce and dealing with the bullshit she had there.

That statement was much more preferred than Hero. Sure there was many of times, he did just that. Many of times he went back for a wounded or stuck soldier. This was truth. Though that was just what you did. You just didn't leave living men behind. For hearth and home. "Thank you." Nyx said raising his mug towards her.

Then she asked. When she took her sip he responded. "I'm dead." Nyx responded with a droll response taking a drink from his mug.

The Glaive let his eyes train on her in return. Just as she was just as trained a soldier, he was right there with her. His eyes on her, and how she held herself. One trained soldier respecting another trained soldier in his stance. "Though that could be considered a very long and complicated story for a single evening." Nyx swirled his cup looking into it at the liquid. "What about you, Ms. Danvers. What is your story?"

"Huh." That was Carol's response at first, giving a nod. "We seem to be getting a lot of dead people, recently." She was starting to wonder if something had happened to her on the way back. She couldn't remember, so she doubted it.

"I got time. Not like I'm going anywhere." She looked around the bar and smirked with a shrug.

Her story? Whew boy. She'd forgotten some people around here didn't know. There were so many that just did (and that was strange in itself), but Carol had gotten used to the strange fame that had come with being who she was. And doing what she did.

"You mean my story story, or do you mean how I came to be here?" She took a drink and considered. "I was answering a distress call from a friend. Unfortunately, when I landed...this was where I was. No sign of my friend."

And she just recently figured out what had happened when she didn't show up. She stared down at the bar, going quiet. When she looked up again, her face was more relaxed, smirking a little. "You want more, you're going to have to go first. For instance, what's that?" She nodded towards the weapon then looked at him with a raised eyebrow.

"Well. I never seen the dead rise again." Nyx swirled the liquor more. "I admit, I much rather be living then dead." So he matched her shrug with a smirk. "Well it seems we will have to share stories."

Nyx tipped his glass into his mouth, and swallowed what was left feeling the burn all the way down. Once finished, he slid his glass over to her for that refill.

"Where I am from, I am what is called a Kingslaive, we mostly call our selves Glaives. We were selected by the king as his special forces due to our immense ability to channel the magic that his family provided." With a little stretch. "I fought for that man, and managed to do honor on that man, ensuring that Lu-" Nyx thought to that moment where he put the ring on. "That the Princess got out of the city when the battle came to Insomnia." When he received the glass back, Nyx looked at the contents, the smile on his face. A smile of a man proud of his actions. "In turn this and that happened, I asked for the Kings of Old for their power to protect the home that took me and my people in, and they did such." He held up one finger. "For the one night." Then he let it hang in the air, that he would die at the end of it.

"So." Nyx took a drink from his glass. "That's the short version." Then he reached down with his right hand pulling up on the hilt of the weapon revealing the blade. He then set it on the bar. "We Glaives use weapons like these, daggers, or even a few with sickle swords. These weapons keep us mobile and warping incredibly simple." Nyx spun the weapon on the bar so the hilt was facing Carol, while taking a drink from the mug.

She was happy to oblige. She opened the bottle to pour as she listened.

"Glaives. Interesting. " She slid the cup over then took a drink from her own. His story seemed familiar, but not. The idea of gods and magic was something she had brushed off as superstition. Carol's world was based off science and technology, even if things like the Infinity Stones did exist. But he seemed to believe it. And he died for it. So that was something.

She took another drink and picked up the weapon, inspecting it. It reminded her of something the Kree would use, but simpler. No lasers or photon beams attacked. No tech at all, apparently. It was beautifully crafted, though, and she made sure to set it down carefully back on the bar.

"Interesting story. But it sounds like it has a happy ending. At least for the people you were protecting?"

There was a smirk on his face. He knew the look. Skeptics were skeptics. You couldn't help it. Sure he didn't cross skeptics where he was from on his abilities, it was very common knowledge at that. Though skeptics were skeptical on other things, until you showed them. Tipping his mug up and into his mouth he just drank the liquid down.

"Watch." Was all he said.

Nyx channeled the magic through his body and just tossed the mug to the side. It was tougher to get the warp this way, but he could do it. Then he vanished in blue dust and appeared again catching the mug while landing. Okay. Drinking and warping, not always great.

"Magic." Nyx walked back to where the woman was standing behind the bar. "It's channeled through you and abilities given by the royal family. Not everyone had the capabilities." Nyx explained setting his mug in front of the woman.

Though... "I'm not sure about the happy ending." Nyx admitted. "Last I remember was burning and turning to ash in the rubble of the city, watching the sun rise." Nyx hoped the young king would ultimately succeed.

She did watch, and she even raised an eyebrow looking a little impressed with that one as she finished what was in her cup and poured again. "Not bad. But not magic." She shrugged, sipping the vodka, her eyes clearly challenging him.

"I mean, I don't doubt someone gave it to you and that you have an inherent ability for it, but where I come from we call it science." Yes, Carol was a skeptic about such things. She'd seen a lot of things in the universe, but she was still dubious on calling any of it "magic".

That sounded like a sad fate, and she frowned a little her eyes going serious as she nodded. "But...you won the battle, right?" She hoped he did. At least that would give the man some sense of peace."

Nyx laughed. "Science is explained." He happily challenge. "Such as..." Reaching in his scorched combat pants he retrieved the cellular device and set it down. "Here we have a piece of tech, chips, and such. All can be explained with science." Then he put it away. "But, with my..." Nyx looked about and out part of the missing wall. Holding his hand out, he conjured a fireball, and it fired out the hole into the ground scorching and creating a small hole. He went real light on that one.

"Where I would agree with your statement, I don't get it from any sort of technology." Nyx reached out and took a napkin and started folding. "The source of my power is a giant crystal that sat in the center of the city, and that was given from the king. King Regis to be exact during my time." Nyx kept folding the napkin while speaking. "When he died, my abilities ceased. Nothing, none." It became obvious that he was folding a ring out of the napkin.

"Now this ring.." Nyx held up as his paper ring as example. "Is the Ring of Lucii, which is handed down to head of the royal family. They put it on, have a conversation with old kings, and get access to their powers." Nyx weighed his thoughts. "Which is much more than I can do." Nyx continued. "Now, if you're not royal blood." The Glaive took her hand and slid the paper ring on as example. "You have that conversation, and they are a gaggle of very angry old men. Very judgy." Nyx offered a smile. "Then if you were to fail, the light you up like a bonfire." Sighing, Nyx then retrieved the ring off her hand and put it on. "When I did it..." Then Nyx got a distant stare. That was his end, not that he wouldn't do it again. "I put it on, and the measured me and were unimpressed." Focusing on Carol, Nyx smiled, till they learned I was there to not ask for their power but to ask why they do nothing. Short answer is, my king, Regis was there and conveyed my standing and I was granted that power."

Then he got quiet. Did he win. That was perspective. "I killed Titus, my mentor." Nyx was still somber about that. "He betrayed the crown, and was part of the result of us being invaded." Nyx looked down and then back up. "So he perished, and the princess escaped." The man smiled a genuine smile.

"I call that a win."

She was going to interrupt him and say that crystals could be explained, too, but he seemed intent on finishing and now she was getting curious. And slightly amused. When she conjured up a fireball, she almost laughed. But, she didn't. She let him play with the napkin, and even let him put the ring on her because he really wanted to make his point.

It was an interesting story, and somehow familiar. A king granted great power, bestowing that power to a handful of "elite" soldiers who were deemed worthy. Something about this was familiar. Oh. Right. It was what happened to her when she was taken years ago. "Sounds intimidating."

But he grew quiet talking about his mentor. And again, she could relate. Her face softened a little and she studied him. There stories were so alike, it was almost scary. All except who it was that betrayed the crown. And Carol looked down at her mug when he as done and nodded. "That's quite a story." She took a drink and sighed. "And I'm glad you won."

Then she raised her arm, her fist glowing as she blasted a photon beam right past his head (not enough to harm him, of course), and blew a small hole in the wall next to his. As she was doing this, she was finishing the contents of her mug and she'd set it down again when she lowered her arm.

"But it's still science." And casually, Carol started to refill her mug again.

There was something Nyx believed happened between soldiers. There was this unspoken bond. When fighting in conflict, no matter the conflict, you saw things and people who saw similar horrors could relate. War was war in any language. That is something that spoke volumes.

"I suppose, if I am to go out with a bang... better make a big one?"

Nyx followed the blast and raised a brow and looked back. "First." Nyx searched for his words. "What powers you. What gives you that." He was seriously curious, because she could what he had science all she wanted, he knew where the powers came from, and it wasn't something scientific.

"Second. Don't you have enough holes in your building?"

"Bigger the better." She was smirking, cocking her head to the side when he asked about the powers and the holes in her wall. "I figured I was going to be working on that wall anyway, so why not? As for what powers me, that's a more complicated story."

But how much to tell? She poured herself more vodka, offering to top him up too before taking a drink. "Short version: I was a test pilot in the United States Air Force, but I didn't realize what I was flying was advanced alien technology until we were attacked and we crashed. Turned out that the woman I had been working under was actually not from Earth- my planet. And she'd built this super engine out of a thing called the Tesseract- which was actually powered by this thing called an Infinity Stone. Kind of like your crystals."

She realized he was going to think this was magic, but she went on anyway. "So we crashed and we were attacked and...she asked me not to let the people who shot us down get ahold of the engine. So I shot it. It exploded, my body absorbed whatever energy was inside and..." She held up her glowing fist and shrugged.

"But it's not magic. The Infinity Stones contain specific powers from the universe, and they're hard to explain, but they can be studied and controlled with science. That engine I shot is an example."

She left out the part about being kidnapped, mindwiped, and serving in an oppressive galactic empire for a few years after that as their secret weapon.

There was a low smirk. He thought to battle against Glauca and the old wall. The giant statues coming to life, fighting daemons and airships. It was possibly a wonderful spectacle. Though Nyx sat and listened to her story as she went about how she was working for these people called Aliens. Interesting, that her United States Air Force, champions of Earth were like Niflheim in using machines. Magitek Soldiers being the cannon fodder, but in her case, she sounded like she piloted an airship.

While she talked about the technology and the crystal. There was a smirk across his face. Nyx could see that she realized in her eyes what she was saying, though he stayed quiet and continue onward with her explanation and story.

"No, no, no." Nyx responded with a slight amused tone "Definitely not magic." Okay, he was mocking her a little, with a smile. Sure what gave her power, he'd agree with it being based on science and technology. Though those stones or crystals or whatever. Magic. Those Infinity Stones sounded for sure something magical. Though Nyx being the man he was, would not push the topic. It was obvious that they were not going to understand their worlds fully.

Nyx held his mug to her for a refill. "Thank you for sharing your story with me, Carol."

She realized that he probably had no idea what some of this stuff was as she watched him, figuring she would go back and explain if he had questions. Or maybe he'd just figure it out over time. In Carol's mind, it sounded like Nyx was just part of another world. Some alien planet that hadn't yet discovered space travel and believed in magic.

And she could tell that he was thinking the Infinity Stones were magic. Right. Her eyes narrowed and she cocked her head. "Don't start." She wasn't going to argue. She still didn't believe in magic. Mutations, strange creatures in the universe, yes...but not magic.

"Yeah...anytime." She'd left out the part about being kidnapped and brainwashed, forced to fight as their super soldier. A story similar to his in a way, but it was probably not the time to get into it. So she poured a bit more for him and watched his face.

"So...got any other tricks? I mean, aside from randomly disappearing and reappearing."

That was accurate. Though some of the things, he was capable on picking through and getting a general gist of what she was talking about. Other things, he would just smile and nod. There wasn't any reason to dive to heavily into things now. This relationship of theirs, was just blossoming. They had time to quiz each other, and learn. After all, that's what friendship was about right?

When he was called on his smirk, Nyx just laughed. Something the resembled a real laugh since the last days lining up to the downfall of Insomnia. This, as strange as it was, was nice.

Nyx was certain that they'd share more stories as time progressed. Drinking from his mug he leaned some looked around. How could he demonstrate? Well, he just held his free hand palm up, and cast lightning. Little arcs of electricity arced into the air and along the palm of his hands. "This I guess." Nyx casually said.

Closing his hand dispelling the magic he shrugged. "I can cut someone pretty proficiently." Nyx looked at the Insomnia forged blade.

"Huh." She watched the electricity with interest then looked up at him. "So you can harness electricity? Could've used you before we got the power back on." Seriously, that had been a nightmare itself.

"Yeah, the knife sort of told me that." Another laugh as she drank. "We never used knives on the field- not really. I mean, I knew someone who had a photon blade, but that's pretty different." She was staring at the knife, studying it for a moment and considering whether or not she wanted to ask about where it came from.

Then she drew her attention back tot he man, studying him a moment. Her expression was hard to read but relaxed. She was sizing him up. "How long did you say you served?"

Nyx laughed. "Busy fighting traitors and blowing stuff up. Remember." There was a smirk as he shifted his weight on the stool.

"Right." Nyx let his fingers trail over the blade some as he took in thought of all the memories with the weapon. As if reading her mind, Nyx explained. "It's one of two. This is the one from the Crown City, Insomnia. When they took me and my people in, this weapon was forged for me around the time I became a Glaive. Incredible craftsmanship. My other one though, would be found in the rubble of Insomnia where I had my last fight. This is the only one that came with me." Nyx sighed thinking to that one. "That was the one forged and handed down through my family back in Galahd." At that point he looked to Carol. "Where my bar was before I became a soldier."

Which lead right into her question. Her hard expression was met with his soft one. "Let me see." Nyx looked up some counting in his head. His bar was fairly young, and then the war swooped them up and killed his sister. Decade? Somewhere around there. He had enough conflicts under his belt. "I'd say somewhere around ten to twelve years. Some of that was fighting before going to Insomnia." He shrugged. It was obvious he wasn't counting the years.

"Got it. Been there, done that." She responded to being busy with other things before this. For him, it was traitors. For her, it was trying to keep the universe from imploding on itself after a major crisis and a trillion or so beings disappearing.

He kept talking about his people and Carol was imagining refugees. Like Talos, a man who fought to protect those he loved from a larger threat. Except, in Nyx's case, he joined another military to do that. She slowly nodded as he explained how the blade was crafted, explaining its origins and heritage.

So time also didn't mean the same thing to him. Another interesting observation she'd made as she sipped the vodka. "40 years." She spoke with a sigh, topping herself off.

"That's how long I've been a soldier. Time flies when you're having fun."

They were two different sides of the same coin. The biggest different, was her selfless act to protect an entire universe. Nyx was just trying to protect a single gaggle of people. Sure Insomnia was much bigger than he was suggesting, but, just a small portion a universes population.

Nyx would call her the real hero.

Not everyone was welcoming of him and the other people from Galahd. Filthy refugees or worst. This is what upset Nyx about the world. People were so cruel and violent. Fighting Niflheim outside the wall, prejudices on the inside. Reminded him of the city guard that was telling him he wasn't needed. Sure that one came around, but how wrong was that man.

While his attention was on Carol, his stare was back in conflict. "Forty?" There was a smirk. "Well, don't you age just incredibly gracefully." There was a chuckle, as Nyx for that split moment appreciated Carol's physique for the first time that night. She was quite attractive. He was thirty-two, and he was feeling the creaks in his body. "Time does fly, when having fun." Nyx opted to confirm.

She just winked as she took a drink from the coffee mug then shrugged. "Yeah, not sure if that was a side effect from the whole Power Stone or the Kree transfusion." And it had been a surprise to her as well. Probably something to do with her regenerative abilities. And it was something that weighed on her, though she didn't ever voice it. The idea of watching her friends age and die around her was terrifying. And a major reason she hadn't visited Maria after all these years.

There was a hint of guilt as she thought about it and set the cup back on the bar counter. "You ever miss it?"

She didn't think she would have to elaborate. It was pretty obvious what she was talking about. War. Battle. As much as she hated to admit it, something about the fight was stimulating. Maybe it was the adrenaline, the sense of power. It was like flying. God, she missed that feeling. She took another drink and shook her head. "Not the death part. Not the aftermath. But... um....the actual fight."

The Glaive raised an eyebrow to her. "Kree?" Did she mention that before? Did he just miss it? Or first time she let him in on this piece of her history? Regardless, Nyx was curious. Regardless, a timeless body sounded... lonely. Call him a simple man, but he was fine with the whole living, loving, dying bit. Well. He lived and died, so he made it two thirds of the way. That was a good score right? Suppose you could call it hundred percent if you counted his with the Princess. It didn't count because it could never be.

Taking a drink from his own mug he considered the question. Did he miss it.

"Yes." The answer almost surprised Nyx, so he took another drink. "I'm damn good at it." The man admitted. Something about warping about and slaying monsters, daemons and Niflheim soldiers was satisfying. The chaos of war and combat made sense to him now. Sure in the beginning, not so much... but now? Second nature. Muscle memory always taking place when he pulled his weapon. Entering a room, acknowledging threats and places to warp to and strike from. "Though with the death.." Nyx sighed. "I was at peace.." His gaze softened. "It's weird, sitting there watching your body just slowly burn away and turn to ash."

She would blame it on the alcohol later. Carol tried not to go into the details of her stay with the Kree with strangers. Only because she didn't like those memories of being used by them and lied to about who she was. It was painful to think how weak they'd made her, or that anyone would manipulate her that way. That she would be vulnerable to that kind of manipulation...

"Yeah, that's another story for another time." She hoped he let the subject drop as she shook her head, glad that he just went along with the change of subject.

"I could imagine." She smirked and tilted her head to the side, still studying him. Carol was good at reading people for the most part. She had to be after so many years trying to defend people in the galaxies she visited. She'd learned over time to tell from little signs if someone was lying or not and to sense who might be particularly vulnerable. Or dangerous. Nyx didn't come across as dangerous, but maybe a little of the latter.

"I've heard that about death. Though I'm not eager to face it anytime soon." That part was half-true. There was still the part of her that was afraid she might never die and what that would mean for her future. Another long drink and she was starting to feel a little bit of it rushing to her head. She still poured another, probably outpacing him.

"Tell me about your princess." Yes. She could tell there was another story there, and she was digging for more and more information while withholding her own.

This was the most interesting game of cat and mouse. It wasn't one that was who could get the edge over the other, or to out smart the other. It was more, just fishing for information. The type that left you connected with the person you were talking with, compared wanting to murder. Well, at least if you were to ask Nyx. He liked this, Carol. She was interesting, smart, and very candid. Things that Nyx appreciated in a comrade.

"Fair." Nyx opted not to pry.

Nyx was dangerous in his own right. Vigorous training, and excellent combat skills. Lethal with a blade, and equally with the magic. Though he was also like a wild animal. Conserving his energy for when he had to spring to action. No point in being wound up if there was nothing to use that energy on.

"I can only speak for my own experience." Nyx was honest. "I think my peace came from the point of, accomplishing my final mission." Killing the traitor, destroying the devastating daemons, and crushing countless airships. All things that would take a toll on Niflheim. "Though to be fair, if I had an option, I wouldn't have sacrificed myself." Nyx admitted. "Just at that moment, it was what was needed to done."

Then the question about the Princess. "That's a story for another time." Nyx mimicked drinking on his mug finishing the liquor inside it.

Of course, he was going to use that line against her. She smirked and shook her head, pouring a little more into his mug. "Well, here's to peace, then." She had set the bottle down to offer a toast and a shrug. Funny how the bar was technically closed, but people were still wondering in to drink on a regular basis.

"Funny how often things 'need to be done', but there doesn't seem to be anyone else doing them." Carol shook her head and took another sip from the cup. She had a million and one questions racing through her head, not just about Nyx, but also about so many other things. The information from Natasha was bothering her. The idea that she was from their universe, but somehow here and also in the future didn't sit right with her, especially knowing that the woman died collecting a stone.

It had been weighing on her over the past few days, and suddenly the guilt of being here was heavier than ever.

"I can't stay here much longer. I think I'm going stir crazy."

Of course he did. She'd learn that about him soon enough. That was literally the type of guy he was. Sure honor bound and dutiful. But, having a few drinks with his comrades, and sharing laughs. He was all about that. With the liquor added to his mug he tapped his mug against hers. "Here's to peace.." Nyx raised a brow. "And new friendship." Then he drank from his mug.

There was always something that had to be done, that no one was willing to do. Everyone's mind went to the dishes, or the laundry. Nyx went to sacrifice to save those who could not be saved. Nyx went to doing right by his honor and his king. Nyx went to being the hero, despite him not seeing himself as one. "There is that. Not everyone is cut from the same clothe. Some are scared of death, but I just tell it 'Not today' and continue." Though to be fair, he didn't quite make it did he.

Then her abrupt statement caught Nyx off guard. Both brows raising up. "Here as his Panchos or this weird town?"

Not today. Oh yes, she'd heard that excuse before. It was always said by those cowards who rather let others fight for them. The Supreme Intelligence, for example. She sighed and drank.

"Both. Maybe." She shrugged her shoulders, considering how to answer that. She hadn't exactly been stuck at home that day. She had been through a portal earlier and had a bit of an adventure. It should have scratched the itch. "Maybe I'm just not used to being in one place for too long, anymore. I usually travel around. a lot."

Natasha had made a big deal about Carol not having a bed, and was shocked that she hadn't thought anything of it. Carol didn't even notice before Nat said anything (though she probably should have). It just made her more self-conscious of how apart from this life she'd been all these years.

"I didn't really have a home for decades. I just went where I was needed, no reason or place to settle down. Suddenly I'm here and there's nowhere to go. It's been hard."

That was why he couldn't of done what Titu- no, Glauca. Traitor. Though he still was the captain of the Glaives and he stayed back and sent the soldiers off to combat. Of course he was formidable but that didn't mean he often sent him and his fellow comrades off into combat. Nyx respected the man up till the end though, even when he was finishing him off. Moral of the story, Nyx was a front line sort of guy, shoulder to shoulder with his brothers and sisters in arms, fighting till the end.

For hearth and home. It was the mantra for a reason.

"I can understand that." Nyx commented. Sure Insomnia took him in, but it was never truly home for him. That wasn't his true home, but it was the home he had. But he fought for the others in that city, not himself, so it didn't matter where he put his head down. "I admit, I only traveled from conflict to conflict." Nyx stared into the cup like it held the answers he was looking for.

"If you ask me.." Nyx started with taking the weapon off the bar finally and returning it to the sheath on his thigh. "Which ever fateful reason put you here for a reason." Nyx shrugged. It was probably the vague religious side of him. "But you're here now, and you should make the most of being here in the now." His eyes locked with Carol's. "Because, tonight... you might not be here anymore and you could regret not living in the now."

Hello kettle, meet pot. Because Nyx should take his own advice, but he didn't know how either. Soldiering was all he knew now, and with no king to server, no princess to save, what was he truly?

Definitely a soldier's life. Part of it was having to get used to moving from place to place, sleeping anywhere they could and being ready for action at an instance's notice. Another part was not worrying about tomorrow because you didn't know if you'd even be there to see it. Well, most of the time. Carol had realized soon after her first fight against the Kree that she might not have to worry about that for a long time.

But the spirit was there and as he met her gaze, she watched him back. Her own face was unwavering, for a few seconds before smirking, maybe a little too much. "Oh...believe me. I tend to live in the now." Maybe a little too much. As she told Nat, she was the sort to take pleasure where she could and fuck off with the rest. As long as it didn't hurt anyone and she was able to keep helping others the next day. Come hell, high water, or hangover.

She finally looked back at the counter and shook her head. "You know, I can't tell if you're flirting with me or just being very, very serious." Her tone was a matter of fact and she took another slow drink of vodka, laughing a little into the mug.

There was a brow raise at her question. Was he flirting with her? That was interesting? Was he? He didn't quite know if he was or was not. Nyx looked away some as he thought about it and it was pretty obvious he wasn't sure.

"I suppose I could be, I hadn't thought about it." Nyx answered honestly. He laughed lightly. "I'd say I would hit on you. You're my type." There was a smirk on his lips as he shifted on the stool some as he drank down his mug's contents. How much had they had to drink at this point? It all blurred together at this point. In fact, when was the last time he was drunk? That was a good question. Sure beer here or there, but he often remained something that resembled sober because of the conflict, even when he was on gate duty.

Back to the topic, he leaned on the bar some and let his smirk widen some. "Why? Should I be hitting on you?" Smooth Nyx, real smooth.

His looking away made her laugh more, the sort of laugh that crinkled the edge of her eyes (something rare these days). It was genuine. "It's okay! Don't worry. I'm just not used to um...." How did she put this delicately?

Carol knew how offended some men could take it, but at the same time the alcohol was making it a little bit difficult for her to think through things reasonably.

"I think the phrase is that I usually bat for the other team." She then stared at him and realized how stupid that sounded to someone who wasn't even from America, let alone Earth, and she started laughing again. "Sorry, sorry. I usually flirt with women. And other stuff." She was still smiling as she poured a little more and offered to top him off.

"It's been a while with a man....not that there haven't been a lot who try."

She hadn't answered as to whether he should be hitting on her or not, though. And it was probably obvious that his hitting on her wasn't entirely unwelcome. "I'm going to need to get another few bottles of vodka at this rate."

There was a perk in his brow? Bat? Like flapping squeaking flying rodent? Then she explained what she meant. Kay. Now that made sense. He could follow that. Fuck it? He didn't quite care on that front. Good on her. Who really gave a shit anyway. As sexually fluid as he was, there wasn't an attraction to men for him. He was one, and Nyx knew how disgusting the less fair sex was. Women held his heart, but that being said it did make him think. When was the last time.

"Well, there is a lot who try, but to be fair.." He thought about it but it blurted out anyway. "I wasn't exactly trying." Nyx laughed a bit. Not that he was going to make a true attempt anyway. The point of this little trip wasn't to get his rocks off, but to meet someone who had showed interest in conversation.

If he had tried to bed every woman he'd encountered, then that'd be a lot of attempts. Side of that, he was on the battlefield quite often and that wasn't exactly the most romance inducing experience for a pair of people. Sure he knew soldiers snuck off to release the stress. Good on them, Nyx was just a focused man on the things that were more important. Like not dying.

"Bring it on." Nyx answered confidently. "It has been some time since he had actually tied one on, so he was happily accepting on the mission to metaphorically destroy this bars stash.

"Sure you weren't", now she was the one teasing him as she set the bottle down and nodded as if it was clear she didn't believe him. "If you weren't, you must just do it naturally. Or maybe I'm just really starting to get bored and looking for any fun where I can get it."

Yeah, she knew what she said. And she meant it. Sort of. Nyx wasn't exactly unattractive, and he was her type (well, guy-type, anyway). She tended to like the sweet ones, which never ended well considering her lack of attachment.

"We should definitely stop talking about this now and change the subject. You do not want me like that</i>. I mean, can't blame you if you do, I'm pretty hot stuff." She laughed and took a drink. "But I'm not the kinda girl you should attach yourself to."

Yes. Definitely needed to change the subject before she kept talking herself into a pit. "So who else have you met around here? Haven't seen you around much, yet. Were you there the night of the bar opening?"

A good hearty laugh left Nyx's lips. "Oh you know me so well already? Just me. The natural woman pleaser." There was a coy tone with his statement.

Now that was something that the pair could agree on with each other. Regardless if it was the booze or not, Nyx did find her attractive. There was a number of ways he found the dear bartender attractive. Physically sure, but deeper than that.

One thing was solid in his tastes. He couldn't sleep with someone with the personality of a rock. Carol wasn't that person, that was for sure.

There was a sly narrow gaze as he looked to Carol. Nyx pounded the last of his booze and held out the mug to her for a refill. "Want me like what?" Nyx asked playing innocent at that point. When his mug had more in it, took another swallow and shrugged. "You are who you are. People should just accept that." Like he expected people to accept that he was who he was. A Hero. Every single time, he'd just do what had to be done. Obviously even death. "Besides." He smiled half a smile as he looked at his mug. "You're not my real mom. You can't tell me what to do." Then his gaze went up allowing his blue eyes to lock with hers.

With out looking away, he answered her question. "Not many people. Woman named Loki, and a few chats over the network. I'm still quite new to the place."

She was topping him off as she shook her head, still smiling. She hadn't smiled this much in a while. Well, not like an idiot, anyway. "You don't want to get attached to me, is what I mean. And we definitely shouldn't do anything beyond drink tonight. My roommate is upstairs, for one." Yup, so having Nat stay with her was at least good for making sure Carol didn't make bad decisions. Kind of. Not that it was entirely foolproof.

"And two, you're right about the acceptance part. Most places in the galaxies are okay with that bit- just not the United States Airforce." There went the grin as she thought back. See? This was why she drank in the first place.

"I thought Loki was a man?" That information caught her off guard and she tilted her head, curious.

The smiled stayed right on his face while she topped him off. "Well, who says you wont get attached to me, Carol." Nyx countered. Nothing like a little liquid courage to drive Nyx Ulric a direction. Hell, Nyx wasn't even sure where this was coming from. Taking a drink he still kept his gaze right on her, smiled unwavering. "Besides, who said I'm going to do anything but share drinks with you, Carol."

Then his frown matched hers. "Oi. None of that." Nyx pointed at her with the same hand holding his mug. "You are you, I accept that." There was a shrug. "I'm not anyone but, Nyx Ulric, dead man." He reminded her with a new placed smile.

"This was a woman. She was.." Nyx looked for the right word. "Odd."

"Huh." She sipped her drink and thought about that. She'd only interacted with Loki a handful of times. This news was...interesting to say the least.

He was definitely drunk, though, and Carol couldn't help but take advantage. Well, not in that way.

"Just laying the ground rules back there. So...now that you're good and not-sober, who was this princess?" She was sitting on her elbows at the bar, leaning close to him to listen with that half-smirk she always seemed to have when she was cocky or amused.

Maybe she was a little closer than she had to be. Okay, she definitely was. It didn't seem to occur to her though. Personal space was not really a thing when she got like this.

"Oh the Princess." Nyx repeated as he leaned in equally, probably too close also. Sure he could play this game of chicken. He was cool with that. That was perfectly fine. There was that coy smile of his quite in place. "You see there was this princess, and there is this story with it." He paused as if he was going to think about how to start the story and then followed up real well.

"And that's still a story for another day, Carol." He laughed lightly and shrugged. "I'm not nearly that drunk." With that being said he countered immediately following her lead.

"What's a Kree?" Though his smile was saying it all, that she didn't have to share. He was perfectly fine sharing uncomfortably close encounters like this, and sharing drinks.

"Yeah. That's usually how most stories with princesses go." She stated matter of factly with that smirk still growing. "Get on with it, Disney." Okay...probably another reference he wouldn't know.

Though, it was nice to be the one with the references the other person didn't know rather than vise versa.

Her eyes narrowed when he did that. Son-of-a... "Fuck you." She growled, very tempted to just punch him out at that moment.

He really wanted to know? She stared at him, studying him before nodding and deciding why not? "I was kidnapped, given a blood transfusion that changed my DNA and turned me into a hybrid, brainwashed, then inducted into an elite group of 'noble warrior heroes'." She paused to let that tidbit sink in.

"I lost six years of my life and the love of my life, missed out on our daughter growing up, and ended up leaving them anyway to keep the assholes who did this to me from completely extinguishing a species they wanted to destroy because they wouldn't bow down to the Kree empire."

She didn't want to go into the rest. Being manipulated by Yon-Rogg or the whole issue with her nightmares. There was clearly a lot there, but Carol had already revealed the overall narrative.

"So...princess?"

The fuck you was more wonderful than he had wanted to admit. Though then he listened to her words very carefully. Taking in the bits she was willing to share, and the pieces that were far end of things. That was all pretty messed up. That was for sure. So she was fucked with on a grand royal scale.

Nyx's face was straight, because that wasn't a story for smiles. It was a story for understanding and accepting. Though the only words that left his mouth were; "You're absolutely incredible." And he meant it. It took a specific type of person to pull of what she did. There was new found quality of respect in his eyes.

Though now it'd have to be his turn.

"Princess Lunafreya Nox Fleuret of Tenebrae." Nyx started. "Oracle and keeper of the destiny of Prince Noctis, her betrothed." He took a deep breath and continued. "During the conflict with Niflheim, she was taken capture and as a plot to over throw Lucis." He considered his words. "My kings parting words before I watched him get slayed by the man I killed before I died was to protect and see the princess from the city."

Nyx shifted uncomfortably about the events. "I did just that. We fought our way through the city together, against stacked odds, so she could escape and deliver the Rink of Lucii to the Prince. The ring only accepted blood line royal family. Those who put it on, and the Kings of Lucii didn't find worthy would..." To make his point he held his hand up and flames appeared in his hand. "You get the point. Anyway, this princess I did my damnedest to save and protect and I got caught in a courtyard when I thought I was meeting other Glaives, just to find out they also betrayed the crown. I was shot.. once or twice." That point he leaned back and raised his shirt revealing a number of scars, but he pointed to the traitor scar which the bullet ripped through him. "So then Captain Titus, also known as Glauca, came to recover the princess and the ring, but also my childhood friend, also Glaive arrived to save the day, partially." He took a deep breath think of Libertus. "He bought time and to uncover who Titus was. And as I was dying and bleeding we were out of many options. The princess near me, went to put the ring on in hopes to use the power and I stopped her." Then he shrugged. "I put it on. Bartered a deal. Power of the kings, for the night to save the princess, kill a traitor, and deal as much damage as I could to the Empire."

Leaning back in, he said somewhat softly. "That would be my Princess Lunafreya, the Oracle and bringer of destiny." Of course, it was chopped up history of the last events, but it outlined the full story well enough. "And then, I burned from the inside out from the magic pulsing through me." Which he still held currently, he just hoped it didn't fry him a second time.

He said she was incredible and she shook her head, about to roll her eyes and look away before he stared his story. The truth was hse sort of hated herself. How could she abandon Maria and Monica like that? Again? She had meant to come back, but...that was another regret. Another drink. It was better to move on and listen.

As she listened to his story, her expression was unreadable. She understood the motivations that would bring him to make such a trade, and she could tell that he had been somehow in love with this girl. She also knew a thing or two about how it felt to burn from the inside out, even if she never died from it.

"Sounds like you got your revenge." She said finally, quietly nodding toward him. "And she's alive, at least." A faint smile, trying to cheer him up. If only a little.

"But yeah....sometimes doing what you think is the best thing for all can really, really suck." She finished her cup. She was going to say it was her last for the night. She'd lost count and she was definitely drunk- two nights in a row now. Tomorrow's hangover would be horrific.

Despite her opinion, Nyx thought she was incredible. Despite her feelings, he still would think it. But one of the bigger notions, as a soldier, Nyx understood the regrets of a person and the decisions they make when they think on them later. As for his love for the Princess, Nyx would say it was the same love he had with the rest of the royal family. The Princess was off limits, and he wouldn't have dreamed of that one.

Got his revenge? Was it revenge he was seeking. That statement alone made him consider his actions. Sure, he felt betrayed by his mentor, and that man had killed his king. There was a shake in his head. "Wasn't about revenge." He responded softly. "It's about duty and honor. Also, it's just the right thing. People should just do the right thing." And he could see what she was trying to do, a smile crossed his lips. "I only pray and assume she got out. You have to remember, I was busy kicking ass to see her out personally. I handed the escorting off to Libertus, that friend Glaive of mine."

When she polished off her mug, Nyx followed suit. The pair of them had some rollercoaster talks this evening. That was nice. As she set her mug down, Nyx flipped his upside down and set it on the bar top. "It really does, but if no one else will see the future secured for those who wish to see it, my life is nothing in comparison."

Looking to the door he came in and back to Carol, seeing this evening coming to a close. "See me out, yeah?"

"She's probably fine." Maybe. Carol was just trying to comfort a friend(?). She wasn't really sure if they were friends, but the conversation was deep enough that she might as well consider it.

She could relate to his duty and honor. She'd been dealing with the same thing her whole life, the desire to do what is right and for the right reason, even if it didn't always make her the most popular. She was watched curiously as he turned the mug over, clearly done. And with a nod, she stood straight.

"Sure thing. Need me to walk you home?" There was that cheeky grin again as she headed around the bar, not wobbling or anything. The truth was that she metabolized alcohol quickly, so even when drunk (and she was drunk), it never seemed to stick too long. She'd probably be completely sober in an hour or two. But, she would still have a hang-over.

"C'mon, where do you live?" She'd catch him if she had to, unsure of exactly how much the poor bastard had to drink.

Her words were heard, and he could only hope she was correct. Gods he hoped. Regardless, it was nice of her to say.

Following her posture, Nyx stood up. Yep. Drunk. Though he handled it very well. "Oh, come now." Nyx laughed. I don't need some escort home." Though he walked towards the door with Carol. He kept thinking to the amount of liquor he might have drank. It was a lot that was for sure. He'd had been topped of over a dozen times, but he nursed them mostly. Sort of. Not really.

When they hit the outdoors, the night air was refreshing. Clean and fresh. Something he really liked about here.

With her question he looked about. "Well I'm over there." Somewhere. Nyx looked back to Carol again. "Thanks for this." He commented. "Really. This was something pretty needed in my world right now." No responsibility, no worries. Just, pure unfiltered drinking with a new friend. "Though honestly, I appreciate the concern and the offer to walk me home." Nyx pulled his kukri. "Besides, I can travel pretty well with this." He laughed.

"You sure about that?" She was grinning a little as she monitored how he was walking. He seemed okay, but Carol was also trying to stay cautious.

It was nice out that night. Of course, most of the nights had been beautiful since she'd gotten here. She wondered if they got rain. Looking up at the sky, Carol realized how much she missed the night stars on Earth. This place was...different. It was like it was trying to be Earth and failing somehow.

"You're sure you're okay?" She knew he'd probably just wave her off, but she had to try.

"Yeah, just don't cut yourself with your toy, okay? I'd feel bad." Carol's smirk said it all as she waved him off and sighed, staring again up at the sky and realizing just how much she missed it. Or at least, her old home.

As her mind started to drift, Carol realized she needed ot be careful with such line of thought and turned back toward the bar and toward her "bed".

Yes, Nyx was sure, but there was something about the way she stared off. It made him feel a pang of guilt, but he was on his way anyway. Tossing up the weapon and catching the hilt he smiled. "I promise I'll be fine. Though." He pointed at her slightly with the weapon.

"This is a two way street. You feeling homesick, or lost. Let me know." Nyx smirked that boyish grin of his. "I'll swing on by, and we'll drink our sorrows away." He shrugged some. "Or talk. Which ever."

With that he spun and threw his weapon high and far over the buildings. He turned back to her quick and smiled brighter. "It was a pleasure to meet you, Carol." And just like that he vanished into blue particles, before continuing his warping towards his home.
