WHO: Bucky Barnes and America Chavez
WHAT: Sgt. Barnes has arrived
WHERE: Center of town
WHEN: Evening
RATING: Lowish maybe some swearing?

What the hell is going on? He thought, as he stared at the area around him. It certainly wasn't Wakanda, which was where he should be. The battle was about to begin. Bucky looked down at himself. He was still wearing the modified, updated uniform Shuri had designed for him that, funnily enough, looked like a modernized version of his old Howlies uniform. Leave it to the Wakandan Princess to come up with an idea like that. He glanced to the left and curled his fingers into a fist; yes, it was still the same arm he'd also been given as a means for fighting and functionality. A quick scan over himself showed him his weapons were all where he'd strapped them to himself. In other words, he was still himself but the world around him had changed. So then, why?

Rather than ponder it out in the open, Bucky quickly ducked around the side of a building to stay out of sight. He knew about the Infinity Stones, about what each of them did. Was Thanos using the Reality Stone to make everything appear altered? Was he actually still in Wakanda, about to converse with Steve before they lined up for battle? Was this some attempt to confuse everyone by changing their reality? For that matter, was anyone else around? He didn't see anyone as he peered out from around the wall of the building where he was hiding. Drawing his rifle, he used the scope to see even further, his sight already amplified by the super soldier serum running through him.

It didn't appear that there were any threats around, but Bucky of all people knew it was impossible to be too careful in an unknown situation so he kept the rifle raised, and took a few steps out, then another few until he'd reached the center again. Were those footsteps he heard? Bucky whipped around quickly in the direction he'd hear them coming from. Show your face, he thought.

It was clear he was a man who was used to dangerous situations and wasn't entirely sure if he was in one now, there was something familiar about him, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it. Sort of the way so much of this place was a bit familiar but not quite.

"That is a complicated question, chico. None of us really know where we are." She told him, lifting her hands and shrugging as she spoke, if she knew they'd all have been home and out of here already, of that much she was sure. "Everyone seems to just kind of be showing up here." She explained a little of what she knew after being here for a little while. "We're all just kind of figuring it out as we go."

"I'm America," She introduced herself, not seeing much reason to hold that back, and hoping that giving a bit of herself would earn a little good will and maybe a little bit more information from him in return. "What's your name, I can... I don't know, show you around a bit, there's not much to see here, but I can point you to an empty house if you want to set up there." She offered.

Us. There were multiple people in the same location who did not know where they were? They was unsettling, to say the least. Sometimes it was good to know that one wasn't alone in a given situation, but in this case Bucky took no comfort in that fact. If there were others who were lost too, that didn't bode well for the situation. He needed to get back to where he'd been; to Wakanda. It was time to fight, to try to stop the end of the world. And now he was ... here, wherever this was. If he'd gone missing, Bucky didn't want to think about what that would do to Steve, or how it might distract him if the fight happened before he was able to get back.

"I don't plan on setting up here. I need to find a way to go back to where I was," he said. "But I'm guessing since you mentioned multiple others being here, that's not exactly an easy task." That was inconvenient, to say the least.

With his free hand, Bucky raked his fingers through his hair and looked up at the sky. This wasn't supposed to be happening. "My name is Bucky," he finally said. "Bucky Barnes." He looked back over at her and held his human hand out to her. Stand offish as he could sometimes be, he'd gained enough of his personality back to be polite.

"Trust me, none of us really planned on setting up here, but you know if you can figure out a way to get home let the rest of us know, that's what I was out here doing. Normally I can you know-" She mimed punching the air like that should explain enough about her star portals and the way she normally traveled through the multiverse, "But it doesn't seem to much matter, I can't seem to get a portal to stay open long enough to get through on my own let alone send anyone else through."

It became immediately clear why he seemed familiar in a strange sort of way when he introduced himself as Bucky Barnes, "Mierda!," she swore, "You're Bucky Barnes? Like Howling Commandos, Bucky Barnes?" It was like meeting Steve Rogers in the middle of World War II all over again, maybe not exactly like that, but it was pretty damn cool, even with things being what they were America could admit that.

"This is just... wow, you know you meet some people in time and then sometimes they just show up in the middle of strange situations like this." it was enough to make her think that Madrimar was out here trying to teach her another lesson, but surely at this point they didn't need to go to the trouble of sending her places like this and putting heroes from history in her path just to teach her about herself.

Reception from others was always a tricky thing for Bucky. Although he'd technically been proven innocent for his crimes, it wouldn't be a stretch to say a lot of people were afraid of him. Bucky didn't blame or fault them of that. He actually agreed with those who blamed him for the things he'd been forced to do. He'd only visited it one time, but it wouldn't have surprised him if the tribute to Bucky Barnes at the Smithsonian had been taken down or severely altered once the identity of the Winter Soldier had been made known. Not many people would consider a human weapon a Fallen Hero.

In Wakanda, it was different. No one looked at him that way. The people had been kind, accepting, and welcoming to him. Bucky wasn't sure if it was because they just didn't know who he was, or if they really were just very understanding because he hadn't stopped to ask. The latter wouldn't shock him. Once T'Challa learned the truth about what happened to him, he'd granted him full protection and asylum in Wakanda.

But when this young woman, this stranger, received him not only in a welcoming manner, but also appeared pretty excited about it, Bucky was surprised. He didn't even know exactly how to react to that. He did smirk when she swore. He'd been versed in many languages as the Winter Soldier, so he knew what she said. "That's me," he said. And the fact that she'd identified him as one of the Howlies and not the Winter Soldier actually made him feel a bit less guarded in her presence. He was very proud of being a part of the Commandos. "Sorry, this isn't the usual reaction I get from people. But if you're willing to show me around, that'd be very helpful."

America couldn't believe it, but it made sense once he'd confirmed it - he looked a bit like the Bucky Barnes of her world, different though, but similar enough that she could see how he'd seemed familiar initially. It was amazing really, the way the multiverse worked, sure it was something she'd done before but never let it be said that America didn't know cool when she saw it - and this was cool.

She didn't quite get it when he told her that her reaction wasn't the norm running through what she knew of history and guessed that it must have been that part of his past as the Winter Soldier, but that was - well it was the past as far as she knew, and those who ran in their circles all knew that he'd been brainwashed and made to do things he wouldn't normally have done. "Sounds like you're not from the most forgiving of dimensions." She said finally but nodded.

"Come on, I'll show you around a bit," She agreed, leading him from the center of town and passed some of the houses, pointing out some of the ones she knew were occupied and the ones she knew were empty. "People tend to gather around meal times often, some of the guys are better hunters than others." What with their archers and some of the others of hunting was their only means of food they'd be okay she reckoned. "And there's this," She said after she'd lead him toward the edge of town, pointing at the building she'd only just started investigating herself, "Not really sure what it is exactly, but you can go in and open a door to a new world, but it's not the one you left - at least it hasn't been for anyone yet that I've heard. Everyone always ends up back here after they've gone through."

Bucky nodded. "Not especially," he said. "Though they have good reason. I don't blame them for their feelings." How could he, when he still hadn't really forgiven himself? It was easier for people to have someone to blame by name rather than an organization with nameless people pulling the strings. He'd gotten better about it, at least to the point of not living in a constant state of pain and he was able to smile again when the situation called for it. But if one of the Winter Soldier's victims' family members, descendants, friends or whoever showed up to take vengeance, Bucky didn't think he'd dodge the bullet when it was fired. In other words, he was still soul searching.

He remained quiet, though not aloof, while America showed him around. Bucky was much more of an observer nowadays, so he took everything in as best he could. Mostly he just wanted to learn a perimeter of the place to get his bearings if he was going to be stuck there. He also took note of some of the residential areas she'd pointed out because he figured it'd be in his best interests to know who all was there.

His biggest interest became in that building she pointed out to him. "But it could be possible for it to take us back? Is there anyone here capable of studying what exactly the portal is? Is something powering it?" He asked. "Sorry, I don't mean to be an interrogator." He just needed to go back, just like all of them probably did.

She frowned but nodded, she supposed it was hard to argue with something she didn't really understand fully - this wasn't the Bucky Barnes from her world, at least she was pretty sure he wasn't. So maybe he was dealing with an entirely different set of issues than what she'd known of the one from her world. "Feelings are complicated, even in the best of circumstances." She said finally, because it was all she had - that much she knew, her own feelings, the feelings of others, they were all intense in ways that she didn't always understand and was always trying to figure out more.

Shrugging when he started asking more in depth questions about the building at the edge of town. "Maybe? I mean I don't usually have to rely on things like that to move through the multiverse so understanding what they are and how they work isn't my specialty," She wished Prodigy was there, he'd probably have this figured out in a matter of minutes, she'd just set him down in front of the portal and watch that big brain work until he figured out a way to get them all home.

"No, no it's okay, I get it. I asked Kate a ton of questions when I got here too, none of it makes any sense." She admitted promised, "You're probably better off asking someone like Stark, he's here somewhere," She turned her head back toward more of the homes trying to remember in which direction he was, "Everyone seems to gather occasionally for meals, sharing and things like that - that'd probably be the time to get answers." For her she didn't know the sort of bigger answers about the portal yet, how it worked or why it seemed to take them anywhere but home, but maybe some of the others had that figured out by now.

It wasn't like it was Bucky's specialty either. He didn't really know anything at all about that sort of thing. Just the bare minimum basics which was pretty much what he'd asked her. The most knowledge he had came from half-listening to some of the things Shuri talked about whenever he was in her lab and from what he retained from his training with HYDRA, but none of that included portals. Even if America did have information, it wasn't like he could put it to much use himself. He was just hoping that maybe someone might be there who could.

And then she let the bomb drop that Tony Stark was there and that gave Bucky a sick feeling in his stomach. It wasn't that he held any ill-will toward him (other than that he'd tried to beat the hell out of Steve), but he knew the other man wasn't exactly a fan of his. Granted, things were a bit different now and there were bigger issues to contend with but if Tony was here and not missing then who knew where they'd actually stand if and when they were face to face.

For now, he chose to keep that little tidbit to himself. "Stark is here?" Was how he responded. "Well, that's something." When she brought up the meals, he wasn't sure how he felt about that. "I'm not exactly a social butterfly. But if Stark is here, I'm beginning to wonder who else is here, too."

"Yeah and Rogers actually, they seem to be from the same dimension from what I've gathered." She explained, but if they were anything like the ones from her regular dimension then he'd probably be able to figure out something to help them get home. "I'm not too worried just yet, I mean if we're here for much longer I might start to worry, I've got things I need to be taking care of back home, you know?" She shrugged hoping those landsharks weren't causing too much chaos while they were gone, if nothing else she trusted a few of the Avengers to make the trip across the country and keep California from being completely overrun, but you know it was the principle of the matter. She was supposed to be there, Kate was supposed to be there.

"There's a couple of others here too that I recognize, Kate Bishop and Clint Barton, they're from my dimension, but there's others too that I feel like I should know but they're not quite right - a little like you." She added, there were others that were familiar enough, people she'd known in the time that she'd spent on Earth and other worlds.

"It seems like a pretty random assortment of people, by the looks of it - no rhyme or reason for why certain ones are here and other's aren't, or why some were taken from one dimension and not another." All of it was beyond her pay grade to be perfectly honest, what she wanted to know was what about this place kept her from being able to use her powers, it couldn't be anything good, that much she was sure of

It was really hard to wrap his mind around the idea of there being multiple versions of the same people from different universes. That being said, it wasn't the craziest thing he'd ever heard. With all he'd been through and everything he'd been made to grasp in order to catch up with the world over the past few years, this wasn't all that farfetched. It was just strange. He wasn't sure he'd want to meet another version of himself. Or maybe it would be interesting? He'd figure that out if the opportunity came up.

"Steve?" His eyebrows rose. Was it the Steve he knew? Or some other Steve? Any Steve was a good Steve, but it'd certainly help if it was his Steve. His mind sort of went a little haywire thinking about those possibilities. "I wonder if he's from my world. I should find him. I was going to meet him when I ended up here. We were about to enter a battle." He recognized the name Clint Barton; he'd fought with them in Germany, but it wasn't the same Barton he'd met.

"That's why I'm anxious about getting back. The world was on the brink of losing half its population. Not that I think I'm crucial in stopping it, but I should be there, regardless."

"Come on," America said when it became obvious that Bucky was interested in meeting Steve, or at least getting a look at him, she could understand the desire to know if someone was your version or not - after running into so many different versions of others in the multiverse a little familiarity could be the most comforting thing in the world.

"We've seen most of the sights as it is, there doesn't seem to be much beyond this, and trying to get much further doesn't seem to yield much other than winding up where you started," She said with a shrug, it was strange, but she'd seen stranger. "We can get your things and I'll see if I can point you in the direction of Rogers and Stark so you can at least see if you know either of them."

It was hardly the world's greatest welcome, America had never really been one to be picked for welcome wagon duties, but all things considered running into Bucky Barnes wasn't a bad way to start off that sort of thing in her mind. "It's back this way." She said leading the way back to the place she'd gotten her own phone trusting that there would be one there for him as well, and then she could show him where she was pretty sure Rogers tended to be most often.

Although she'd shown him what appeared to be most of the sights, Bucky still wasn't sure he had a grasp on the actual size or perimeter of wherever they were. He would've felt better if he did, but he supposed there was time for that later since apparently there was no telling when or if he'd be able to get back to Wakanda. God only knew what he'd be going back to. If Thanos succeeded and destroyed half the world, would the inhabitants of this one succumb to the consequences too? What if it did happen and those who were here were the ones that were severed from the universe as they knew it?

It was too much to think about. Too many questions, and no answers at all in sight. Bucky needed to focus on what was going on right now. "Thank you," he said. Finding Steve and maybe seeing Stark at a distance was what was in order. Whatever happened after that, he'd have to face it when the time came. "I hope my arrival wasn't interrupting anything you were intending to do. But I appreciate that you took the time to show me around." Bucky wasn't nearly as charismatic as he used to be, but he also wasn't as deadpan and silent as he had been before he'd taken up residence in Wakanda, either. He was capable of having conversations now where he actually spoke more than one word at a time. Baby steps, but progress.

"Don't worry, I wasn't doing much. I've just been trying to see if I can make a portal to get back home - I hoped maybe I could bring one up at some other point in town," She explained as she shrugged, it wasn't like she was back home with things constantly demanding her attention. If she could say nothing else about this place she could say she appreciated that things were a little less hectic here. Her phone wasn't constantly blowing up, there were no battles she had to fly into, no papers that were due, no new movies to check out, no messages, no nothing really. Okay the more she thought about it the worse it got, so instead she focused on the parts that were good - that she wasn't constantly being called in to help clean up some mess that someone had stepped in.

"I'm around if you ever need to... I don't know, talk to someone?" She suggested shrugging, it wasn't like she was the best conversationalist in the world, but all things considered she wouldn't mind at all being able to say that she was friends with Bucky Barnes. "Or if you need anything I guess." She added. "But here's your phone it connects to some sort of local network, but it's not the internet, I don't really get it - but that's not my thing really. I guess that's it really, not much of a welcome, but this doesn't seem to be much of a place so I guess I can't be faulted too much for that."

Bucky was, admittedly, overwhelmed despite the area being a bit underwhelming. He still had a lot of questions but none of them really seemed to have any answers at this point. That wasn't exactly abnormal for someone who'd spent a lot of time trying to find answers to questions about the majority of his life while he was piecing his memory back together. If he started letting the questions build up, it'd be too much. He just needed to try to focus on what was in front of him, instead of the unknown.

It seemed as though he'd been brought here, if he had things like a phone and there was a network of sorts. Something was 'in charge' so to speak, but he wasn't going to venture into that void of wondering at this point. Not yet, anyway. America was trying to be supportive despite not really knowing him, which was incredibly kind. It didn't go unnoticed. "I appreciate that," he said. "It sounds like we're all in the same position here. If there's anything I can ever do for you, please don't hesitate to find me or I guess, ask over the network? If that's how it works."

"Yeah we are," She agreed with a low huff, shaking her head, it was a situation she was unused to - being stuck in a place and not being able to get out. She didn't enjoy it one bit. And she could just imagine that none of the others were exactly enjoying the prospect of this either.

"I will," She agreed, it was pretty cool to be able to say that she had someone like Bucky Barnes she could call on if need be. "Same goes for you, the net is probably a good way to go about things. Or you know just wave if you see me around. I'll be wandering around trying to make the portals work, so you know." She shrugged.

"I'll leave you to it," She said finally, she got the impression that he was still figuring things out and making sense of all of this and if he was anything like her then he'd want to be alone while he worked on that. So she thought making herself scarce wouldn't be a bad idea. "I'll see you around, Bucky."
