Who: Klaus & Jan
What: A stunningly cute pair meet for the first time
When: After this exchange
Where: COFFEE!
Rating: Low

Jan loved coffee. Well, she actually probably loved all the sugar and cream and whipped topping and caramel and everything else she dumped into it back at home. She had been so disturbed to find she didn't care for the black version Kate and Clint offered, but it seemed people had been able to bring back some cream and sugar with them post-convention and keep them fully stocked. It wasn't quite a caramel macchiato, but Jan was at least able to pour as much sugar into her mug as she wanted. Which was probably more than her daily allotment, but it really helped with the taste!

Jan had been waiting for her new friend to arrive, a cup sitting beside her, waiting for him too. Kate had already brought them what they needed, saying if they wanted a second cup to call her. Jan had a feeling she was just sneaking more cups herself in some kind of secret stash. Still, she couldn't blame her; the espresso machine she and Clint had been able to find was pretty lucky. She had heard a rumor that they had been able to get almost all the miniature coffee pots from the convention hotel as they could get their hands on. Jan wanted to know why her room didn't have one yet.

As the door opened, Jan turned to see if it was him. She grinned, not recognizing the person so it was probably him, right? "Are you my stunning date?" she asked, giving him a once over. He was pretty stunning, in that kinda of 90s, acid trip kinda way. She liked him.

She patted the seat next to her, inviting him in. "Hope you enjoy your coffee black because I took most of today's sugar ration." She held up a half-full sugar container with a sheepish smile. "I'm Jan, by the way. It's nice to meet you...?" She looked over at him for introductions.

She was absolutely right about that, but more often than not in his experience, appearances were exactly what they seemed to be. In terms of fashion of course he knew that people used it that way, but as the sort of black sheep of the family Klaus fully embraced the idea that his clothes ought to say that about him as well. Whether he was stealing Allison's skirts, or simply wearing his own brand of off beat second hand clothes. It was a look that worked for him.

"Maybe," He said thoughtfully, he could give it a go - though he hadn't seen anyone here just yet that looked like they'd be all that interested in his style, he could certainly take a shot at it. It wasn't like he had anything better to do.

Yes, there was absolutely a bit of a face when she heard the name he'd chosen, but that was to be expected. "It sounds nice," He shrugged, "And there's no one who has it so you'd never have to live up to any expectations with it."

"You?" He asked pleasantly surprised by her admission that she'd like scaring people. "You want to scare people." Now that really was proof that appearances could be deceiving. And how wonderful that little bit of knowledge was.

"If I had a choice, I wouldn't want any powers." He didn't even have to think about it, he'd seen what powers had given his siblings and himself, none of them had been able to lead lives that weren't troubled by the powers they'd been born with. "People like to think that regular people are missing out on something, but they're not."

"What's your favorite way to get high?"

"I dunno, wouldn't you have to constantly live up to the expectation of getting away from the negative connotation of the word?" And all the teasing. Jan shook her head, not quite seeing the attraction in it. "What name does Klaus have to live up to?" She peeked over at him, wondering if the question had a deeper meaning to him or if it would be a silly answer.

"Oh yeah!" Her grin only grew bigger as she confirmed it. "It's like a little surprise every time!" Who didn't like that leap in your gut when something really scared you? It was exhilarating!

His answer to the power question made her raise an eyebrow. "You talk about it like you do have a power." Which wouldn't have surprised her, but she liked to know the other people in Starklandia that had superpowers. She liked to guess based off what he was wearing too. She bet it wasn't something on the fun side too.

"High?" She laughed, scrunching up her face. "You know, I've only actually gotten drug high once. And it was very...weird." She looked at him, hoping he knew what she was talking about. It was like she had all this pent up energy that was just about to burst from her, but her physical form just got so incredibly lazy. And hungry. She thought she could eat before!

"But I do enjoy getting high by flying!" That still answered the question, 'cause it was a literal high! He never really specified.

"What's your superpower?" While they were on the topic, may as well officially ask.

"Maybe it's everyone else who just needs to get over their assumptions and not the person with the name." He suggested when she mentioned all the negative connotations. Why should a word carry so much with it, but also - if he was being honest it was the sort of thing he said not because he truly believed it, but rather because it sounded funny. Not that he was going to tell her that, and none of his siblings were here to rat him out so you know, it worked.

"You don't strike me as the sort of girl who finds the terror of others all that amusing," But he'd been wrong before and he certainly didn't mind that she was that kind of girl, he sat back a little and gave her another once over, enjoying the sight of her just a little more upon further review.

Klaus held a hand out in something vaguely like a shrug when she guessed that he had a power after his answer, but didn't elaborate further.

"Just once? Now that's a shame. It sounds like you just hadn't found the right kind of drugs for you." Klaus of course had sampled nearly all that he'd come across and found there were some he enjoyed better than others, but at the end of the day if his powers were muted then he didn't really care all that much what he took. Being here in a place where muted powers didn't seem to be an issue was a new thing for him, to be sober and not have ghosts screaming at him. He wondered if this was what life was like for everyone else all the time.

He should have known that would be her next question, "Mediumship." He said simply, the true breadth of what that meant was still being revealed to him but here wasn't really the space to explore what that was, so the simplest answer was best.

"How do you feel about dancing?"

Jan had to hand it to him, he had a good point. "If only it was that easy." Jan usually liked to take the easy way out, at least for her school agenda. Note taking and paying attention in class didn't seem to have the same priority as saving the world or catching up on a little nap. Still, she knew that discipline and looking at things from outside the box was key when handling dangerous situations. Making assumptions could get you in a lot of trouble, especially when you were dealing with an opponent that focused on your routine.

"Like we said, my dear Klaus, don't judge a book by its cover!" She held her mug out for a cheers, smiling as she watched him reassess her. That was probably one of her favorite things to do, surprise people. Not necessarily in the scaring part like she had just shared with him, but in every aspect.

"There's a right kind of drug?" Jan wasn't so sure about that...she had heard stories of having slippery slopes of people falling into addiction and she definitely didn't want that to happen. Still, she was kinda sorta curious? And she wondered if Klaus was the right person to experiment with. He certainly seemed to know what he was talking about, so that was something, right?

"Mediumship like...talk to ghosts?" His minimal reveal seemed to indicate he wasn't too pleased with his powers and Jan wondered if there was some kinda flip side to make his powers not so cool. With great responsibility came great power kinda situation.

But her face lit up when he asked his next question and she nodded her head. "I love it! Do you?" That wasn't really her next question and she stared at him as she thought about what else she wanted to know about this guy.

"What were you doing before coming here?"

"You're right," He agreed easily, "We did say that." Klaus grinned as she held out her mug, lifting his own to meet hers in a kind of cheers. She was interesting, cheery in a way that Klaus didn't have a lot of experience with but he certainly didn't mind it. She could stay, he decided.

Klaus gave her a surprised look, like the answer to her question was obvious. "Of course there is a right kind," He said simply, sure maybe his definition of the right kind was more broad than others, but he was fairly certain that there was a good kind for everyone who was interested in them. But maybe that was just his addiction talking. Hard to say really.

Taking a slow drink from his mug, Klaus nodded, "Yeah, like talking to ghosts." Not that he ever did a lot of that outside of Ben, but Ben didn't count. It was mostly a lot of ghosts shouting at him, but he wasn't going to get into the details of that, not with Jan or anyone to be honest. That was something that he'd keep to himself.

"Who doesn't love dancing?" He asked shaking his head like the very idea of such a thing was completely insane to him.

"Saving the world." He said simply and then considered, "And what were you doing?"

"And what are the right kind?" Jan had lost count of how many questions they had been asking, but really, it was just a way to get comfortable with each other, yeah? They were now coming normally, a regular conversation between two new people meeting for the first time. It had given her an overall idea of who Klaus was for agreeing to the game in the first place and she felt the intent of it had served its purpose; she could definitely see herself hanging out with him again.

Superpowers and saving the world? She knew she liked him for a reason. Or at least figured she'd like him from their interaction through their network. He didn't seem like your stereotypical superhero, but then again, who did? "Getting ready to save the world!" She grinned. "Well, I've helped with it a couple of times, but it's finally graduation day! So we were all packing up on campus, getting ready to go out and be adults in the world!" She shrugged as an answer to a question he hasn't asked yet. "Tony and I were getting ready to go out together and suddenly I was here? Meeting an older Tony, so that was like, a weird serendipitous moment!" But for such a strange occurrence, Jan had been happy that her bestie had been the one to greet her.

"Who was the first person you met here?" She glanced at Klaus, finishing off her cup and looking at its empty contents. Well, it was nice while it lasted.

"For me?" Klaus asked raising an eyebrow and shrugged, "Never met one that I didn't love." He'd try anything at least once, and had in most cases and if it got him fucked up then it was a keeper. "But everyone is different, if one doesn't work for you it doesn't mean others will be the same way." For a guy who was attempting to be sober a lot of his conversations ended up back here - but it was something he knew a lot about he supposed and why not? It wasn't like there was any saving the world to do here, who would it hurt if he wanted to get a little high.

Jan was interesting, Klaus decided. Still a lot like his first impression, but there were depths to her and that he could appreciate. That and she seemed to actually want to talk to him and not just humor him as they got to know one another a little bit better. Her story of how she'd ended up here was interesting too, graduation day - and going out to save the world, it was like she'd gone to some super hero school, which he supposed maybe he had too in a way - you know if a super hero school was your dad locking you in mausoleums to help you control your powers. "That does sound like a weird serendipitous moment." He agreed though, because it was, he didn't have the same sort of serendipity to his arrival though, so maybe that was just a Jan thing.

"Sirius, he's a wizard." Klaus still thought that was pretty amazing, you know powers were cool and all, but magic was definitely better. He could only imagine how much better he'd have done in life if he'd gotten magic rather than his questionably useful sort of power.

"I was trying to make a jump through time with my siblings and then suddenly I was here and they were not." But Sirius had been there and Klaus was willing to wait around and see where all of this lead for the time being, he deserved a break after everything they'd been through after all.

"Wanna show me your shop?" He asked, because she had one, she'd mentioned it when they'd first started talking and well Klaus wanted to see what passed for fashion here in Jan's eyes. Especially since they both seemed to have sadly reached the bottoms of their cups.

Jan made an uncertain face and shrugged her shoulders. "But then you have to try all of them and what if one like, totally messes with my mind?" She tapped the side of her head as if she had important knowledge up there. Which she did! She had so many birthday's to remember, as well as a list of things she wanted to keep an eye out for her shop, Tony's password so she can smuggle his phone when she needed it, plus an additional 10,000 other things she couldn't really prioritize at the moment. She didn't know a lot about drug use or what was safe or how to do it, but she was curious. She just wondered if Klaus was the right person to trust. But that was the whole point of 20 questions anyway and, to be honest, she was digging him. He wasn't like some of the people she usually hung out with at school, but he kind of reminded her of Bucky. Except less musical.

"Do you sing? Or play an instrument?" she asked suddenly, almost interrupting the conversation they were already having. Because as soon as she had asked it, she registered what he had been telling her, which was the answer to her first question...or the question that had been before this one. "Sirius!" She beamed. "I know him! He's actually the reason I opened my store! Really cool guy. Great accent. Really cute. I just wish I had been able to see more magic." Because really, the apparation was NOT fun for her. She would have rather seen him turn into a duck or turn other people into ducks. At least they would have all been safe and not all creepy like as they had been, staring them down. Jan shuddered remembering back to it.

"Aw, I'm sorry about your siblings." Jan gave him a sympathetic smile and a hand on his shoulder. "Maybe they'll still come through? Time portals can be tricky sometime." At least the theory was there, she hadn't actually done it herself. "Is that one of their powers? Time travel?" Because that was a pretty cool power.

But then he was asking about showing him her shop and she jumped at the opportunity. "Yeah! I don't know if you'll like anything there, but maybe you can do a few sketches and I can look for things next time I go out!" She placed her empty mug on the counter. "THANKS KATE!" she yelled before holding her arm out to Klaus.

"Shall we?"
