Sure waking up to find that he was for some reason attached to a wizard nearly half his age hadn't been on the top ten best ways to start his day list that Peter most certainly did not keep somewhere in the back of his mind, it hadn't actually been on the top ten worst ways to start his day list either. So that was something to consider. Not that it made it any easier to deal with knowing that for some strange reason he found himself tethered to Sirius, things had gotten very strange very quickly, and considering his history with strange well - Peter thought he was handling the whole thing admirably.

Tonight though, well they were at the bar, because even tied together like this people still needed to eat and Peter wasn't about to just throw all of this away because he was mildly inconvenienced. So he was doing his best, passing out drinks and making food and hoping that at the very least, they could all just spend a little time there that evening and pretend like things weren't entirely fucked.

"Nothing like a couple of drinks and something good to eat to at least help make you feel like things aren't quite as bad as they might seem." And certainly he'd lucked out he thought, but like John had said, things could always be worse.

Tony rather thought that if Steve was going to be stuck with anyone (who wasn't Tony), he'd actually gotten a pretty good match - someone who was prone to excitement and wasn't interested in sitting still and sulking -- like Tony knew Steve could be in the right environment. He'd have to thank the gangly guy later on for keeping track of Steve so well.

But right now, Tony really had eyes only for Steve -- who was so close now, it was almost torture. Sure, they were in public but everyone else was paying attention to their own people, the way they were sitting and moving in order to get more of what they wanted and less of what they technically didn't.

"Hey yourself," he replied, idly twisting at the ring on his finger before leaning in enough to steal a kiss that was, perhaps, a little less public friendly than it ought to have been.

Steve watched Tony twist his ring and a warm feeling spread through his chest. His ring, on his person's hand, because he wanted to marry him. The wonderfullness of that hadn't even begun to wear off. When Tony leaned in for a kiss he expected a brush of lips, something that they might quickly exchange in public. It wasn't like Steve was embarrassed, or ashamed of what they had he was simply a private guy, who liked to kiss his sweetheart at home when no one was watching. He wasn't an exhibitionist, although maybe in the right circumstances if no one knew them- no he wasn't going to continue with that train of thought.

He let his arm wrap around Tony's waist as he pulled him forward, the other man on his feet while Steve sat and he tilted his head back to keep right on kissing him for a few more glorious moments until he pulled away. Lucky as usual people were much too busy with their own business to pay theirs much attention.

"Richie can sleep in the hallway tonight, right?" Steve asked him quietly and while no he couldn't and of course no they wouldn't it was fun to say.

Tony knew that Steve was a private guy and usually he respected that, because while he wasn't, he also had a little bit of knowledge about public decorum these days -- but, well. Needs must, and it wasn't like they'd been getting any private time recently. Tony was getting it in while he could, despite personal preferences.

It was hard to pull back, so Tony didn't really make himself, just stayed in the warm circle of Steve's arms even when they were done kissing. Nevermind the fact that he had to be on his toes a little to be at the right height to do any whispering.

"You wouldn't ask him to," he said, although it came out wistful, like maybe Tony would be willing to ask, if they were all going to get something particularly good out of it.

Back home there would have been the twinkle of camera's flashing, perhaps someone with a phone in their hand and Steve would have felt anxious about that. But here? Well things were much less invasive, people cared a lot less and didn't know them at all which was nice, but also it had been days and with Tony kissing him he couldn't ever have wanted him to stop.

He laughed, because no, Steve wasn't about to ask him to. But he could think about it, about how nice it would be to have Tony back where he belonged. But it didn't work like that, because that would add Little Tony into the mix and honestly it all sucked.

"He's just as miserable as we are," Steve said because he didn't need to be looking at Richie to know he was making eyes at his fiance. "You've been free of me now a few days, you still want to marry me?"

It was true, there was too much to add to the equation here to make any answer easy. So they all had to just deal with the lot that they'd been handed and leave it at that. Tony hated it for a million reasons, one of which being that he didn't care for the concept of leaving well enough alone. Not being able to fix things was a lesson that was hard learned for him.

Richie did look a little miserable, Tony noted. But not because he was making faces at his person, but possibly because he wasn't. And that, Tony decided, was very much none of his business.

"You do take up a lot less space in the bed when you're not in the bed," Tony said dryly, because what kind of question was that?

"You don't like space," Steve reminded him softly. Because at night Tony was never far, curling into the warmth of him even if he wasn't pressed against him all the time he was there. Until he wasn't and Steve missed him so much he lay awake at night missing the soft sound of him breathing.

He took Tony's hand and rubbed his thumb back and forth over where the ring sat because that wasn't about to get old any time soon. What he wanted was to get a few minutes without a crowd, maybe neck like teenagers but the room was filling up rather quickly.

Still he nuzzled into Tony's neck all the same and placed a soft kiss underneath his ear.

Tony softened a little at that, because it was -- well. True, in a sense. He didn't really care for all that open space when he was in bed alone and tended to stick to one side, the same little spot if Steve wasn't there -- and if he was... yeah. Tony tended to gravitate toward him, even if they weren't always completely cuddled up. He didn't starfish out or take any particular pleasure in having the whole bed to himself at any given moment.

The thing was, though, he'd never said that. It was just something Steve knew from observation. And that sort of just made him feel good, knowing it.

"I guess not," he murmured, twisting their fingers together like he had no real intention of ever letting Steve go -- even though he knew he'd have to, eventually. "So yeah. I still wanna marry you."
