Steve knew when someone was coming, it was hard to sneak up on him and he knew that whoever was coming wasn't trying to do that. When she slowed Steve turned, especially when she knew him by name. Well by one of his names. He'd spent a lot of time under the ice and he'd missed a lot, only to come back and then end up a wanted criminal, so there was lots that he'd missed. Like Carol.
She introduced herself as she approached and Steve's smile widened as he held out his hand to meet her in the middle. "Carol, yes, it's good to meet you," Steve said, as genuine as the day was long. Steve loved hearing stories like Carol's, how she'd become a pilot, after living in the 1940's he'd seen how hard Peggy had worked for the respect that should have been given to her freely. Women like Peggy and Carol, well they should have been the ones on the television and in the comics.
As much as he tried to greet everyone he also didn't want to give the false idea he was somehow in charge. It wasn't a big place and in time he'd met most people just by going about his day.
"I'm just looking for a few trees about the same size, we're building a boxing ring to go in the gym," Steve explained so that it didn't look like he was out here alone talking to nature.
