Who: Steve Rogers and Natasha Romanoff
What: Take two
Where: Small town TM
When: Today

There was something charming about it, something silly and fun, about going through the doors and finding herself in another life, Natasha hadn't realized it was happening the first time she and Clint had gone through, but in the end it had been something sweet and nice. And she'd hang on to that memory for a long time. So when she had the chance to try it once more with Steve? She'd figured why not? There was no way for her to know if it would end up the same again or if they'd end up somewhere else entirely, all she knew was she was having fun and she deserved some of that in her life.

It was strange to actually have time off this year, well time off wasn't really the right word for it. Natasha felt like she'd been going going going since she'd kicked off the dust of this little town and moved out to LA years ago, she'd expected to have to spend years and years working her way up the ladder, but she'd gotten a lucky break almost right out of the gate, and she'd been an in demand actress ever since. And when you could spend your Christmases in tropical locations, the idea of coming back home where it was snowy and cold didn't always appeal.

But her mother had begged, and Natasha could only stand up to that sort of thing for so long before she caved, and caved she had. So here she was coming home for Christmas.

And just like always, her parents were throwing their annual Christmas party with most of the town invited. Natasha had been making the rounds, letting her mother show her off, when her eyes landed on an all too familiar face. Even after all the years had passed she recognized him and she couldn't help the way she bit her lower lip and gave him a subtle once over before she was crossing the room to greet him. "If it isn't little Steve Rogers all grown up." She teased, as if they hadn't grown up together. "I didn't know you were going to be here, mother is - as always - a little too secretive for her own good."

Steve wasn't exactly watching her, but she was also impossible to miss. People whispered about her, heads turned and everyone sort of gravitated toward her. But that was just Natasha, he'd always felt that inexplicable tug into her orbit long before she'd become a household name. He'd given her a little space to say her hellos, talking instead to a guy that they'd gone to highschool with who hadn't made it his mission in life to make him miserable. One of the few.

Because little Steve Rogers hadn't been popular. But still Natasha had always been nice to him, they'd studied together, he'd been into art and poetry and not football but that hadn't bothered her. Lucky puberty had been kind to him and he blended in a lot more these days, having grown into his frame.

"I ran into her at the grocery store," he said with a smile. "She made me promise I'd come and," Steve shrugged, if he'd made a promise then of course he'd have had to keep it. "I stopped growing before you moved, you know," he reminded her with a smile. Of course Natasha looked good, polished, an expensive haircut and stylish dress. But it was her smile that he liked best, genuine right up into her eyes.

Well of course Steve had come, if her mother had managed to extract a promise from him then there wouldn't be any doubt. That had always been something she'd loved about Steve, where so many boys would say anything to gain a little bit of attention, make all kinds of promises, so often they never could quite manage make good on them. But Steve? Steve had always been someone she could trust to keep his word, no matter how big or small.

She laughed a little when he reminded that he'd stopped growing before she'd left. "Are you sure?" She teased, "I think I remember you being just a little bit shorter than this." Years had passed since those days, but he still looked as good now as he had then, in a different way than the people who were so often in her orbit these days. With whole teams to help put them together, to do their hair, and pick out their clothes, and do their make up - Steve managed to looked better than nearly all of them without even trying.

"I'm glad you're here, I was worried I was going to have to spend the whole night talking to people I don't know." Well that wasn't entirely fair, she knew a lot of them, but they were more her mother's friends than hers. Steve though, he was her friend and now that she'd found him she was going to latch on to him like the life preserver he was.

Natasha just Wasn't Like Other Girls, she was more than a girl, she was a person and Steve had always thought so. He was shy, kept to himself mostly, but she did have a way of drawing him out of his shell that most people didn't. There was an ease with her and he felt that as soon as he saw her, unable to keep the smile off of his face.

"Let's get out the height chart I guess," he said as he patted the top of his head like maybe he was still getting taller right then and there. Of course it was easy not to have to worry about clothes or makeup when you were a man, you just put on a clean shirt and showed up.

"Aren't you used to being fawned over? I seem to remember that you were the it girl, always have been," he said with a snort. "How does it feel to be home?" Steve asked her.

"Yes," She agreed giving him a narrow eyed sort of look as she watched him sort of half heartedly measure himself right there in front of her, "I'm nearly positive you've gotten taller." Either that or she was getting shorter, which was a thought not worth having, she wasn't losing anything just yet. But even still it was good to see him, taller or not. She had always liked Steve, who had never tried to wheedle his way into her good graces when they'd been younger. Which had only made her want to keep him around that much more. Because unlike some people she never had do doubt his motivations.

Steve was just kind, in the sort of way that normal people didn't seem to be and yet he was without even trying. Even when he was teasing her. "Even I have my limits when it comes to the fawning." She said affecting a haughty sort of tone for a moment, standing just a bit straighter as she teased him right back.

"It's good." She said immediately and then paused, "Well it's strange," She admitted after a moment, "Not in a bad way, but so much about this place hasn't changed at all, even after so many years have passed." Even after it felt like she had changed so much, but here was Steve the same as he ever was and she didn't quite know what to do with that.

"Really? Here I thought it might power you these days," he said with an elbow right in her haughty ribs. "Isn't that how they do it in Hollywood?" Steve questioned with raised eyebrows.

He looked around the room, the same people who'd tormented him in highschool, the same people he saw at work, everything all as it should be. Steve liked it here, it fit and somewhere like Hollywood? Well that was for someone like her. "I guess you're used to a bit more excitement," he said as he rocked back on his heels. "Most exciting thing here is we finally got a cinema, so we get to see you on the big screen."

Steve glanced at some of the guys who appeared to be talking about her, maybe gearing up to approach and he cleared his throat. "Can I get you a drink?"
