Who: The whole town. Yes, you too.
What: The Great Snowball War of 2k19
Where: The whole town
When: December 1

She had heard a great deal about this snow ball game that was going to be played and Nebula was ready for it, had been since it had first been explained to her by Sirius. But apparently they had needed to wait until there was enough snow for such a thing? Though how much snow was enough was not something she had understood, what made for enough? These were all questions she still had.

But the town had been covered in a blanket of snow over the last several weeks, with large piles of it build up along the edges of town as well as butted up against their houses where the snow had been blown during the days where it had been windier than others. And it seemed that they had finally reached that point of enough, though she saw no particular difference in the amount compared to some other days. This would be her first time though so she supposed that she could allow the others to decide when it was ready for their game.

And so there they were ready for the snowball game, teams dividing up, some playing individually, and others pairing up, as she and Remus planned to do - it was time for a great battle.

Nebula thought that perhaps Gamora would enjoy a game such as this as well - perhaps she and Quill would play with her at some point and they could have their own battle. She thought she would enjoy something like that very much. But for now this was exactly what she wanted to be doing. She enjoyed Remus' company, and he showed her new things quite often, he was a very good addition to her collection of friends.

"Your magic is a very useful tool." She decided as Remus told her that he would be able to duplicate the snowballs as well, giving them both a cache of snowballs that not only moved with them but also one that would continue to reproduce snowballs for them as well. Yes he was a very good partner to have on her side.

"Is this a game you've played often?" She asked him, a first for her but he seemed to know enough of it to have a handle on exactly the kind of magic that would help them most. She wondered at the experience he'd had at things like this, where playing games in the snow could be considered normal.

Remus had really come to enjoy his friendship with Nebula. She was so different than anyone else he knew. She was receptive to learning new things and actually seemed to thrive on the information. She processed things very literally, which actually was a lot like him so he felt very comfortable in her presence. Things got off to a kind of rocky start on his part after the whole incident with the bite but she hadn't held it against him nor did she fear him. It meant so much to Remus. She meant so much to Remus. She was the sort of friend he did not realize he'd been missing in his life. Anytime spent with her was a joy for him.

"Your tactics and knowledge of being in battle will come in most handy for us as well," he said. Remus wanted to make sure he knew how much he valued her as a teammate. Together, they'd be pretty hard to beat in his assessment. Sirius no doubt would be targeting them at some point but he had yet to see his boyfriend. He wasn't sure if Sirius would end up teaming up with someone or go it alone but he was sure they'd see him at some point. Remus couldn't wait to clobber him with a snowball. All out of true love.

"We used to have snowball fights back when I was in school. It used to snow a lot during the winter time. Our school was divided into four houses, so the competition would be pretty widespread. But then, my closest friends and I would sometimes split off even from our own house to win over everyone."

Nebula nodded, yes she had a great many skills which would come in handy in a battle like this, though it was perhaps different than any other she had ever participated in. She'd made certain to leave her true weapons back at her home, they were unnecessary against any of those who lived in the town with her. And she knew well that Remus's skills with magic were a formidable force in themselves, if they needed to participate in a true fight she was confident they had the skills even without her weapons.

But for today it was only snow that they would be wielding and she was eager to see how it would be done. "You would share the victory?" She asked when he told her how he'd played this when he went to school with his friends. A shared victory was something that was relatively new for her in some ways, the Avengers of course shared their winnings, but what they'd won had come at great cost, so it did not feel exactly like winning. But other games she played typically had but one victor. So the idea that this was a game that could share that title of winner? She found she liked it a great deal.

"Perhaps you and I will share later." She had thought that it might in time come down to needing to fight against Remus but if they could share? She liked that thought very much.

Remus did miss the days when he and the other Marauders were back in school, participating in events like school wide snowball fights. Life was much simpler back then, before the war, before everything became a life or death scenario, before betrayals and lies and fights and loss. Those were days they would all laugh until they couldn't breathe, but keep laughing anyway. What he had now was better; clarity, love, a life with Sirius. But he missed James, and wished he could have seen the signs in Peter and stopped him or, for fuck's sake, helped him get out of whatever situation he'd been in to make him feel his only option was betrayal. But, today was a day for snowballs and victory. Two great things.

"We would," he replied. Remus could remember walking the halls afterward, chilled to the bone and soaked from the snow, but not giving a damn because they were being cheered on by their fellow Gryffindors and even begrudgingly applauded by some of the other houses for their efforts.

A smile pulled at his lips when Nebula suggested they might share their victory at the end. He liked that. Of course he was willing to go to the very end, even if he hoped she'd be the winner. But if they could share it? Well, that made him ever the more determined. "I'd like that very much, Miss Nebula. Let's do our best. I'm certain we have the advantage working together."

Nebula decided before Remus even agreed to it, that if it came down to it, she would share the victory with him. She liked to win very much, but the idea of sharing something like that with someone she considered a friend, the way she considered Remus her friend, that was something she wanted much more than just to win on her own.

So when Remus agreed with her she nodded as well. "Yes, we will share our victory and when it is finished we will also share some chocolate." She decided, knowing that Remus liked it. "Did you know you can have it hot?" She asked him, having only discovered hot chocolate recently, entirely certain that it would be something that Remus would enjoy if he did not know it already.

The game would start soon, she was certain and she was ready for whatever might come their way.

There was something incredibly endearing about Nebula that Remus had discovered right away when he began getting to know her. She was, without question, a fierce warrior who'd seen and endured some pretty horrific situations over the course of her life. And yet, she had this sort of childlike view toward new, simple things like snowball fights and hot chocolate and books and games. He loved that about her, and he loved being able to witness her experiencing new things and finding joy in them.

"I think that sounds like a wonderful plan. Perfect motivation to win," he said. "And I do love a good cuppa hot chocolate. We can have that together after." He smiled at her. Knowing that they would be starting soon, he crouched down and began to form a perfectly round snowball in his palms. "Like this," he said. "You want to try to compact the snow as best you can, so that it keeps form when you throw it and doesn't just fall apart while it's airborne. Once we have a few, I'll duplicate them magically so we can keep our supply full."

She appreciated that Remus didn't seem to mind her just the way she was, she had of course encountered many beings in her time and not all of them were entirely certain what to make of her. Fear of course was an expected response most often - she had earned a reputation throughout the galaxy. But she had been changing since she had freed herself from Thanos' grasp, she was different now than the person she had been when she'd gained that fearful reputation. But that left her now as she was - something else, something new.

And while even she was still discovering just how different she truly was, she found that those who could take her as she was to be few and far between. Tony of course had been the first, showing her games for the first time, and allowing her to work beside him, and earning her trust in the process. And there had been some others, but Remus was the first who was entirely new to her, a friend of her own making, not simply because they had been left alone on a planet together, or because he was a part of the Guardians or the Avengers.

So it made their relationship that much more special to her. And today she was eager and ready to share this game with him, intent on winning with him so they could, when it was all finished share the hot chocolate together. She watched as he showed her the best way to form the snowballs, repeating the motions, and holding her own out to him for his inspection - they would have a very good battle today. She was certain of it.

Although their initial meeting had been one of extreme circumstance, the subsequent building of their friendship was far more organic. After what happened on the night of the full moon, Remus would never have expected Nebula to want anything to do with him other than maybe to kill him. When she'd shown up at the library, he had felt so ashamed and so unworthy of her forgiveness. She could've shunned him, called him a monster and left it at that. But instead, they spoke. They talked and they listened, they learned about each other and formed a bond that Remus was so very grateful for.

He was proud to call Nebula his friend.

Their romp through the snowball battlefield was an interesting one. With no real rules or official way of declaring victory, they decided to proclaim themselves the winners when the cold started to seep a little too much through Remus' clothes and he feared catching a chill. All in all, it was tremendous fun. He especially loved it whenever Nebula would smile or express that she was having fun. That was the real victory, as far as Remus was concerned.

Afterward, they did celebrate with hot chocolate. Two cups, actually, with a side of chocolate truffles Remus had packed for their win. They were an unlikely pair, but that often worked wonders and for them? It mean a lasting friendship and inevitable snowball war victories.
