WHO: Harry Osborn and OTM
WHAT: Harry’s a confused, slightly panicky Hobgoblin
WHERE: Town Square
WHEN: Monday night/Tuesday morning
RATING: Low

Peter had once said that he kept his identity a secret because he knew that Norman hated Spider-Man. He knew that the businessman would stop at nothing to see he was destroyed. If Harry knew his secret, then it was likely that he would be put in a position where he would have to choose. Peter or Norman. His best friend or his father. It was an impossible decision. One he didn’t know how to make. One he wished he didn’t have to make.

“Harry! Get me out of these things!”

“Harry, please! Come with me. I’m your father!”

They were both yelling. Both in danger. Both in need of him to decide. His father trapped beneath debris; his best friend pinned to a wall in restraints he’d designed but that his father had used. He couldn’t do this. It wasn’t an easy decision no matter how he looked at it. Peter was his best friend. The one who was always there for him, the one who always had his back, but Norman was his father. Sure, their relationship was complicated. He’d gotten Harry suspended from Horizon High in order to keep a closer eye on him, he’d been taking advantage of Harry’s blackouts to attack Spider-Man while framing him. He’d made Harry think he was going crazy. Despite all of that… Norman was still his father. Harry still loved him. He still remembered what it felt like to lose him the first time, to be reunited with him only to watch him degenerate. He couldn’t do that again. He couldn’t lose him again. So, Harry moved. He picked up his flame sword and helped pull his father out of the rubble. There were no thanks, no hugs, no surprise that Harry had seemingly picked him. Just an order.

“Now, destroy Spider-Man. Fulfill the Osborn legacy.”

The sword crackled to life in his hands and Peter begged him not to, he flinched, as if Harry would ever actually hurt him. As if Harry could take the life of his best friend. He couldn’t. He wouldn’t. The sword sliced through the restraints, freeing a confused Spider-Man. For a moment all Harry could do was smile at the other. He wasn’t sure if this was making a choice. If he was choosing Peter and their friendship over his father or if he was still hopeful that he could have both. Turning around he decided to keep going. To keep being brave. “I can’t dad!” He said, before steeling his resolve and tossing the sword away. “I mean. I won’t.”

The look on Norman’s face was one he was used to. One that still hurt and would always hurt no matter how many times he saw it. No matter what he knew about his father and the kind of person he was. Angry disappointment. “Then you’ve failed me and deserve what you’ve wrought.” He spat out. Angry. Hateful. Before Harry could see where this went, if he would now have to fight his own father, something behind him exploded and Harry watched as his father disappeared in fire, smoke, and debris for a second time. This time, however, there’s no anger. No one to wrongfully blame. It hurt but there was nothing left to do but move on. “We have to get out of here.”

He chanced a look back on his way out, watched as the building burned. He closed his eyes for a moment and only a moment but, when he opened them again, it was gone. The abandoned lab, New York, Spider-Man. It was just Harry, alone on his glider in the middle of a street covered in snow. Had he… had he blacked out again? His father had lied about a lot of things but maybe there was some truth to that. Maybe. He looked around frantic and, maybe, a little scared.

“Pete?!” He called to the empty street before remembering what the other had said that morning. Had it only been that morning? “Spider-Man! Come on! I know you’re around here.” He had to be.

Knowing his Gwen and the kind of person that she was, Harry would argue that there was no way any version of her could be anything but good. She had a strong moral compass and always strived to do the right thing. She encouraged others to the right thing too. Even when they didn't want to. He would argue the same about Peter though and, yes, he would probably even try and argue the same about his father even with all evidence pointing to the contrary. When Harry loved someone he, apparently, didn't give up on them so easily. Sure, maybe, he said things he regretted out of anger and hurt but, in the end, he still believed in them. So maybe he was wrong and there were version that weren't so great of the two best people he knew but, so far, he hadn't run into them and he probably never would.

He'd want to get along with the young version of Peter running around. He'd probably want to get along with the older one too. He just might find them a little jarring at first but any version of his best friend was a good one. He'd try even if he would be disappointed that neither of them were the one he was hoping for.

The hug was unexpected but nowhere near unwelcome. His father had never been very affectionate. Anytime he'd shown kindness or touched Harry (usually with hands on his shoulders) was a ploy to manipulate him. To play on Harry's need for his approval, his desire to please his father. The only real affection he received came from the Parkers when he was younger and allowed to spend time at Peter's house. Once he got older and his father placed a few more restrictions on him he really only received the occasional hug from Peter. To be hugged now in a strange place, far from home, without his Peter, and after everything he knew had, literally, gone up in flames... it meant something. He pressed his lips together to stop them from trembling before he wrapped his arms around her and returned the hug. "Thanks, Gwen..." For everything. For being there. For hugging him. For missing any version of him. "You don't have to spend all night worrying about me. Just point me in the right direction. I'll figure it out. You should go home and rest." They'd talk later. He was here and she was here. They could always find each other again later.

Being in town was a lot. Gwen understood that just because it was easy for her now didn't mean it was easy for everyone coming in. She'd adapted along the way and now was really happy here. But for someone like Harry, brand new and trying to get his bearings; it was understandably overwhelming. She didn't want to overload him with things more than what was absolutely necessary. Establishing and reassuring the fact that she was someone who liked him, someone he could trust and turn to, that was super important to her. She wanted to be his friend, to spend time with him because he was someone she'd cared for so much back home, and though he was from a different world he was still Harry. Still important.

The next steps were clothing and lodging. No way in hell was she just going to turn him loose in the snow without any real guidance but she had some ideas of where he could go for now, or for good if he decided he wanted to stay there. She'd briefly contemplated taking him back to her house with the Brady Bunch of families but thought that might be a shock to the system for Harry, Peter, and really everyone if there was a stranger sleeping on the couch or on some pillows on the floor of her room. No, she had a different idea.

"I've got a place you can stay in, if you want. I lived there for a while with my friend Jan, but she's not here anymore," she said. "There's a bed and some furniture." Now that Tony had gotten the heating in the buildings working she didn't think he'd freeze to death either. "I moved out when she left but it's still furnished. We can get you some food to keep in there tomorrow and I'll show you around town to get you more things." A trip to visit the Hargreeves brothers was probably in order. "Come on. Let me at least take you there." She took his hand, and started to lead him out of the shop. Her former house was close to the shop, so it wouldn't be a long time out in the snow.

Being in Starklandia was a lot. It was it's own little universe filled with people from various other realities. It contained versions of people that Harry knew or knew of. While he was hopeful that one of the Peters already here was his own it would be silly of him to expect it. There was a very real possibility that he was on his own here. That, alone, should've given him reason for a breakdown. Add to that everything that had just happened and Harry couldn't be blamed if he was upset or spent a few moments curled in on himself, trying to block out the world. He wasn't about to do that because he wasn't really alone. Gwen was there. She wasn't his Gwen, sure, but she knew him. She seemed to like him. She seemed like someone he could trust so he was going to.

That trust was paying off so far. He'd just arrived and he had some new clothes to wear. To sleep in so he wasn't trying to figure out just how comfortable his armor was when he was trying to settle down for the night. He would've worried about where he was going to sleep but it seemed as if Gwen had that covered too. He may not have turned down the idea of spending a night on the couch at her place or curling up on the floor but it probably would've been a bit of a shock in the morning when he realized she lived in a house full of people. A majority of whom he didn't know (or had only heard of). It was probably better if he found his own space.

While Harry probably would've insisted that she just point him in the right direction it was sort of hard to deny her when she was taking ahold of his hand. "Okay, Gwen." He said, managing to grab his collection of clothing before they stepped out of the shop and into the snow. He didn't release her hand or even stop to think about the glider as they left. It was better to focus on his friend for awhile. "I was going to say you didn't have to make this much of a fuss but, honestly, I'm pretty sure I'd be lost if I had to do this on my own." He admitted a little embarassed by that fact.

Being Spider-Woman and in the position she'd been in back home, Gwen was used to operating on her own. She didn't really have anyone to turn to because those she cared about would be put at risk. It left her to fend for herself in most cases and at first, she thought that was how it would be when she ended up in Starklandia. It took her a bit, but she'd come to realize that she didn't have to have that guard up around the people in town. She could talk to other people, befriend them and form bonds and there wasn't really a risk of anyone getting hurt because of it. There was still the chance they could get plucked out of town and sent away, but that was a risk that applied to anyone. It wasn't a danger because she was their friend or daughter, like it was back home.

Gwen hoped, sincerely, that Harry would be able to form connections with others here, herself included. She wanted to talk with him, hear his story (maybe even share hers; it wasn't impossible), learn about the things he liked and disliked. It'd be great if he could meet the Peters, but that was something she thought would need to come in time. Alpha Peter had a history with Harry Osborn in his world; she didn't know about little Pete.

"Not to worry then," she said. "You're not alone." She smiled at him and gave his hand a little squeeze as they walked along. "There." She nodded at the house just ahead on the right. "That's the one." It wasn't long before they were standing in front of it. "It's got electricity and running water. There isn't any food but like I said, we can get you some tomorrow. I can come by in the morning to get you. I might even bring you breakfast." She grinned, then turned toward him. "I know it's a lot. Like, a lot a lot. But it's going to be okay, Harry. Do you want me to come in with you?"

If Gwen was worried about whether or not Harry would be forming a connection with her she probably didn't have to. He wanted that. He wanted to be able to trust her the way he trusted his own Gwen. He wanted to talk to her about the things that were bothering him and hear what she had to say. He wanted them to be friends and to be close enough for serious conversations but also to just have fun. To do whatever it was that they could do here. Away from the dangers that seemed to run rampant back home. He'd want to meet the Peters too even if none of them ended up being his own. He'd try not to rush into any of that though. It was important to him that he find out whether or not his was here but this place seemed safe enough. There was no reason to worry.

He may have had to look away, up at the snow, at those words. They meant a lot here. They meant a lot back home too where, sometimes, it felt like he was but in different ways. He'd had friends and connections back in Horizon. He had a life he was making for himself. When he was kicked out he'd lost a lot of that. Deciding to stay at his father's school had only served to keep him isolated and cut off from the people he cared about (like Gwen) and, until recently, he hadn't known that that was the point. "Thanks." he said, glad he didn't have to wipe at his eyes.

His smile returned a little when she pointed out the house. It was nowhere near what he was used to but it was better. He wasn't trapped at the top of some tower looking down upon the rest of the world. He would have a nice little house where he could feel like part of a community or neighborhood or whatever it was. He could worry about the things he didn't have in it later. For now it seemed perfect. "Breakfast, huh? You really do want to spoil me, don't you?" He teased but he appreciated that too. Breakfast with a friend was reminiscent enough of home that it made him feel happy, comfortable.

He believed her, of course he did. It would be okay even if it might not feel like it once she'd gone back home. "You've come all this way. You might as well come inside out of the cold for awhile." He wouldn't keep her too long. She deserved the chance to go home and rest for awhile.

Gwen hoped with all of her heart that she and Harry could build a lasting friendship and grow close to each other. Her trust wasn't something she gave too freely, although here she seemed more willing to give it than back home. She knew, of course, this wasn't the Harry she'd been close to in her world, but she hoped that there was enough of a natural bond from having a closeness with him and he with her in their respective worlds that they could build a foundation here in friendship. It would allow them to learn about each other, good and bad things, the similarities and differences, and hopefully to have fun together.

"Well, yeah," she said when he teased her about spoiling him. Gwen was so glad she'd thought of her old house. He might decide he wanted to venture into one of the houses that had been previously unoccupied later, but he'd at least have a warm bed and a place to unwind right now until he made that choice. It wasn't far from where she lived with her family, either. She liked the thought of him being close.

"Thanks," she said when he invited her in. "I'll come back tomorrow, if you want. You should really get a better idea of the town when it's light outside. And you know, we can hang out if you want."
