Who: Anyone who wants to have a comfortable but bad time.
What: Some Spoop at the Overlook: Haunted Psychic Hotel of Doom
Where: Sidewinder, Colorado
When: Length of the Halloween Plot.

During the warm summer and spring months, The Overlook Hotel in Sidewinder, Colorado does excellent business: visitors thrive on a wonderful view of the Rocky Mountains while being able to enjoy remote quiet and catered comfort.

In the winter though, the snow is too plentiful and dangerous to allow visitors to come and go freely — and so the Hotel becomes a sleepy quiet place with less than a skeleton staff. The empty halls, fully stocked kitchen and bars and choice pick of rooms should be a delight for anyone who ends up there. But the halls are less empty and quiet than what they might originally appear.

All roads lead to Room 237.

"Well. This whole place is a false advertisement." Richie looked a little bit like the embodiment of all things disappointed, broad shoulders sloped downward and mouth tilted at an angle that could only be classified as Sad.

When he'd opened the stupid door in the first place, it'd boasted sunshine above, a beach to the left and a series of strip malls on the right. It'd reminded him heavily of a day trip visit to Malibu and he'd thought this was the perfect opportunity to do something normal all while escaping the too-cool air of Starklandia. So, obviously, he'd thought to drag Eddie along with him. Maybe they could pick out curtains between the beach and Eddie bitching about how the SPF in their sunblock wasn't one million proof.

So this? This long fucking hallway with the tackiest carpet design he'd ever seen in his life? This was not what he'd signed up for or even decided to step into. And yet, here they were and the door to Starklandia was closed behind them, refusing to open up again. He'd been >told that there was no real escaping that place anyway - eventually you just turned back up again even if you didn't want to. So he wasn't that worried?

Except for maybe the part where he was. A little bit. Because Richie trusted no bitch and no empty location, these days. He chanced a look over at Eddie, wondering where to go from here. Apologies were probably a good start.

"You picked the wrong door, didn't you?" Eddie huffed as he looked down at the tacky carpet beneath his feet. This definitely wasn't the trip Richie had talked up. He'd said something about Malibu. Eddie hadn't been that excited. Depending on the location of the beach both the water and the sand could be pretty gross. For once, however, Richie’s excitement meant that Eddie had held his tongue and gone along with it.

He may have enjoyed Malibu. He would’ve definitely complained a little and he would’ve attempted to keep as covered as possible in the beginning but he’d give in eventually. He even figured he’d wind up buying a pair of shorts to wear while they were out. And sunscreen. Loads of that but only up to SPF 50. Everyone knew that anything higher was a waste of money. It didn’t provide any additional protection. Not against UVA rays, anyway. UVB rays, sure. When he bought something that said broad spectrum, however, he expected to not burn and not be forced to endure radiation that would cause his skin to age prematurely resulting in wrinkles and then cancer further down the line, thanks.

He’d still been looking forward to that beach and the arguments that would come or the curtain shopping that Richie had helplessly suggested. He didn’t think they’d find curtains that close to the beach but, hey, they were going to try. So, yes, he was looking forward to all of that because he was looking forward to spending time with Richie. If that was all he was after, however, he figured this entire trip could be easily salvaged.

Moving towards the taller man Eddie nudged him with his shoulder. “I guess being snowed in at some ancient overly fussy looking hotel isn’t the worst place we could’ve ended up.” And he was only doing this because Richie looked so sad. So utterly disappointed that Eddie had felt it was his job to get the other out of that headspace. “The date doesn’t suck yet and it’s your loss for choosing the wrong fucking door. Now I get to wear more clothes than less. No shorts.”

That was the thing, though -- Richie was positive that he hadn't chosen the wrong door. He'd left the one he'd found - shimmering beach and (improbable, unlikely) curtain store - open. When he'd stepped through, it'd been with his focus on how awesome the warm sand was going to feel on his toes, and how maybe he could gather up the courage to get Eddie actual goddamn facts naked later when they tried washing the sand out of places it didn't belong. So. Yeah. He knew he hadn't picked wrong. Unless his vision was getting a lot lot worse than it used to be. He had hit his head pretty hard back at Neibolt. But that was a long time for something like that to kick in.

He decided not to say any of that though, because Eddie was clearly doing his very best to cheer Richie up with some very nice, very sexy banter. It was the mean kind, which meant that Richie perked up, immediately more attentive. He didn't know why, not really. There was just something about the fact that Eddie could match wit with him without trying, that really just got him going. It didn't matter how mean it sounded. Or, well, it did a little. The more cutting the better, in most cases. "Maybe I chose the right door," he said, bouncing back and poking a finger at Eddie's not stabbed cheek. "An overly fussy hotel for an overly fussy you. And we're indoors, the heat is obviously going. Don't deny me, Eds. I ask for so little."

It was probably a good thing that Richie had allowed himself to be distracted by the banter. If he'd insisted that he hadn't picked the wrong door, if he'd told Eddie that he left the door open and had seen a beach, well, Eddie would've been back at the door trying to force it open. The last time they had trusted a door it hadn't gone very well. Richie, however, didn't insist on anything and Eddie was happy to just spend time with him. Maybe they could go out in the snow later, walk around. He didn't trust Richie not to push him into a snowbank. He didn't trust himself not to try and push Richie into a snowbank. It was fine. If they got cold maybe the could find creative ways to keep each other warm later.

"Fuck you." He laughed, lifting a hand to try and knock the one poking at his cheek away. He didn't try very hard. He didn't actually want the attention or the touching to end. He just needed to put the usual fight. "I'm not fussy." They both knew that was something of a lie. Eddie could be pretty demanding when the mood hit him. Richie had never actually seemed to mind. He'd teased, got Eddie a little more fired up, and they moved on to bickering between one another. It had never really occurred to Eddie, back then, that Richie may have liked all of that.

"Yeah... the heat's going." He agreed, because it was. The hotel was comfortable just big, fussy, and a little outdated in some areas. What sort of hotel still had carpet like that or used room keys? He could complain about it later. Probably to a hotel manager if he could find one. So far he hadn't seen anyone. No staff. "We'll discuss shorts later. When we're somewhere private." Because they were in the middle of a hall and if he agreed he'd need a place to change. "Since we aren't getting curtains or going to the beach, what do you want to do?"

That Eddie's laughed out protest was so obviously a token one was emboldening, and Richie actually pressed his palm flat against his cheek and then leaned down for just the shortest of seconds to lay a quick kiss on the tip of his nose. Eddie was so fucking cute and Richie was so fucking enamored. It was really something else, and he was still just sort of amazed that this thing they were doing was not only allowed but encouraged. He was still getting used to it, all that physicality even for the easy stuff because it'd never been something he allowed himself before. Not having to sneak around and pretend he was just teasing was a fucking wild ride that Rich never wanted to get off off. Even if, okay, he was still himself. Sometimes it still was just teasing. "Fuck me yourself," he replied, obviously giddy. "You're definitely fussy. It's adorable."

He looked around them though, squinting down the hallway -- there was a turn ahead, and he figured they might as well follow that so he gestured for Eds to follow and along they went. "Easiest way to get privacy is to find some," he said because that was a good as a mission as anything else. "Which means we do some exploring. Find the lobby. See what this place has to offer."

The turn eventually led them to an elevator and it was a little weird they hadn't run into anyone else yet, but maybe it was just a quiet day, what with that snow and all. "Goin' my way?" He asked, arching a brow while reaching out to press the down button.

It really was something else. The two of them had spent their lives hiding who they really were. They'd been told the things they felt were wrong and had been forced to hide it. They were both still getting used to the idea that it was okay. That none of their neighbors or new friends were going to turn on them for loving each other.

Eddie let out something of a put upon sigh as the poking turned into something a little more similar to a caress but didn't attempt to knock Richie's hand away again. He wanted the affection. He wanted to encourage more of it even if that meant he had to deal with some teasing or just Richie being Richie. "It's not adorable because I'm not fussy. I'm the normal level of demanding for a man my age with my past." He deserved points for not saying his "condition" or his "health". He was slowly starting to accept that there really wasn't anything wrong with him.

He probably should've expected Richie to jump onto the idea of privacy and the promise of shorts. He wasn't sure what else he was expecting. It was probably a good thing that the other liked the idea, right? It meant there was a physical attraction or something. He could ignore the jump to finding them a room for the moment and focus on being fussy. "Good. I need to have words with the manager anyway. What kind of fucking hotel still uses actual keys? Keys." It didn't occur to him that keycards couldn't be an option for some reason.

He followed Richie down the hall, bitching about the statistical likelihood of hotel room robberies without a reliable keycard system. Did it matter if Richie was actually paying attention to anything he was saying? Not really. The fact that the other pretended to listen would always matter more. It had mattered to him as a kid and it mattered now. He stopped after awhile, his attention turning to the elevators. The single elevator was kind of weird too but he wouldn't think much of it. It looked like it probably worked fine. He rolled his eyes at Richie's joke but couldn't stop the corners of his mouth from twitching into a smile.

"You're adorable, no matter what," Richie said, resisting the urge to ruffle Eddie's hair because he still wanted his hand and Eddie was a fucking feral maniac sometimes. Richie, of course, loved it. But he wasn't as stupid as he liked to pretend he was. "Normal amount of demanding or not, it's cute." And yes, he'd absolutely give Eddie props for stating it the way he had -- not a condition or a sickness, just a matter of bad upbringing and what Richie was starting to understand was the world's worst marriage.

"Old hotels use keys," he said, like it was obvious. "Like this one. Or maybe those motels that charge by the hour instead of by the night." Not that Eddie would have ever been to one of those, because even Richie was skeeved out by how dirty those places could be. But he went on listening to Eddie as he bitched about statistics and bitching out managers even as he watched the little indicator of the elevator rise, slowly getting to their level.

Richie didn't even pretend to listen: he really did listen. Maybe with a snide or amused comment here and there, but he was obviously listening. He'd remember these stupid details about keycards later -- and probably, at an inappropriate later date, stop to ask questions about it.

The elevator dinged and then the doors open. "Finally," Richie said, even though he wasn't really in any rush.

Or, well, he hadn't been, but when a set of twin girls greeted them on the elevator, smiles on their faces, Richie was the first to jerk back in recoil, his arm swinging out in front of Eddie like that'd protect him from children.

Remus / Sirius

2019-10-24 02:14 am UTC (link)
They'd arrived a few hours ago. The sun had been bright through the windows, reflected on all the snow out there and Sirius had been excited by it all because this was new and different and he was contemplating a good romp out there in all that snow -- preferably with 4 legs rather than two, no doubt. He didn't really want to get into that sort of cold though, until he found both a way to get hot chocolate (because Remus would appreciate that) and the absolute largest and best bathtub in the place to warm up in afterward (Remus would also appreciate that).

They'd done some exploring since then -- going up and around the whole place, uncovering a ball room, a giant bar, a million and one rooms, some muggle elevators Sirius didn't care for at all and plenty of other things, too. But the kitchen?

It was incredible. Well stocked wasn't even a good enough description and Sirius quirked a playful eyebrow at Remus. "You know, we show back up home with this haul, it's practically a Christmas miracle."

It'd been a good while since he and Sirius took an adventure through the doors so it was far past time they set off to see what they could find. Remus was always on the lookout for more books or resources to bring back to town and Sirius was always on the look out for a good time so that was pretty much all they needed for motivation to go.

They found themselves in some sort of building that all in all felt pretty grand and definitely not a place he could afford to stay in back home. He'd also noticed upon looking outside that there was quite a bit of snow. Nothing they couldn't handle with wands (or Padfoot jumping around in it making some sort of haphazard path for Remus to follow) but he did keep it in mind. It was a hotel. A hotel that didn't seem to have many people in it? Something was a bit unnerving but not to the point that Remus felt suspicious yet.

"We shouldn't take it," he said. "But I hardly see how they're going to need all of this. I've not seen anyone here. So perhaps it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to have our share and enough shares for the town..." He clutched at the tattered shoulderbag he had on for taking back supplies, because he'd charmed it to expand inside so they could fit whatever they needed into it.

The place was rather empty. It reminded Sirius a bit of Hogwarts during the holiday seasons -- sometimes you could go an entire day without seeing hardly anyone if you timed things right. Not that Sirius had ever been a fan of going entire days without finding people to talk to -- he wasn't built for that kind of quiet, never one to fully enjoy being left with his own thoughts.

But right now it didn't matter anyway, because he had Remus and Remus was the only and the best company he could ever want ask for. So he ignored the empty halls, the strange stillness (the kind that felt sort of falsified) of the place. He had his wand on him and an ego bigger than the ballroom they'd passed by earlier. He wasn't worried.

"That's the same thing as taking it," Sirius reasoned with a shrug, because he didn't see any reason to lie to himself about it. Anyway, places like these could always get more food. Sirius couldn't just go down to the shops to buy a bag of crisps whenever he felt like it. Speaking of, he busied himself with opening up a package of biscuits and offering the first one to Remus. "Don't feel guilty for feeding town, Moony. Here. These've got chocolate on."

Remus could remember those empty days in the castle. Contrary to popular belief, he actually did not care for the quiet. To look at him one would probably think he would've been annoyed with his fellow Marauders constant jabbering, wrestling around, asking him questions or rattling off ideas for the next big prank all while he was trying to read. But truthfully, Remus had loved it dearly. He loved the noise even when it broke his concentration. Sometimes, it actually helped. His friends might've thought he was drowning out their words with the words he was reading in his books but he was actually listening to everything they said, always. The noise meant they were there. The noise meant he had friends. He wasn't alone.

Back home, now, it was too quiet. Always.

But this was home now. Well, not this hotel, but Starklandia. Remus was quite happy to stay. And if they could bring back some food for everyone, then that was great too.

"My hero," he said, reaching for the one Sirius offered him. He didn't make it a habit of taking things but as he said, he didn't think anyone would miss it. "That's good." He finished off the biscuit. "Have one, too, love." Remus smiled at him. Part of him kind of wished that the two of them could be on holiday, staying at a place like this. Or anywhere. A tent, even. Just to get away. "Here, let's put some of this stuff in my bag." He opened the flap of the shoulder bag and set it down. "Maybe we can take some of the utensils too." Now that they'd established they were taking things Remus might as well call it what it was instead of trying to make it sound nicer.

They'd all known it hadn't really bothered Moony -- all of their talking and laughing and bickering and sometimes even rolling around while play fighting. If Remus had actually been worried about getting work done and being undisturbed, he well knew where the library was and how to use it. And sometimes he had. But most of the time, he was a fine multitasker, and Sirius hadn't missed his secret little smiles when Sirius and James had gotten a little too boisterous. Sirius had kind of lived for those smiles, back then. Had liked imagining they were just for him, even if sometimes they simply hadn't been.

And even now, Remus was something of a bookwork, but he was never bothered by Sirius and the fact that he didn't sit or stand still, that he squirmed around, sat backward and upside down on the couch, moved in and out of Remus' lap on and off and rolled around on the floor like a loon, all while chattering nonstop.

It was just sort of how they were, and it worked.

"Hmm?" Sirius asked, biscuit already squirreled away in his cheek even as he shot Remus a chocolatey sort of grin, and then leaned over to steal a kiss, leaving behind crumbs and chocolate and zero shame at all.

"What should we do after this?" He asked, leaving the biscuits out, but moving to toss all manner of things into Remus' endless charmed bag -- big cans and large and packages of rice and oats and snack foods -- it wasn't like the bag was going to be any heavier when he was done. "Some cooking things," he agreed with a nod, gesturing to the pots and pans. "There're new folks in town rather down on their kitchen luck," he figured out loud -- clearly pleased with Remus having gotten over his concerns on taking.

He paused after tossing another little something into the bag, and mid-bite through another cookie when he heard a clattering noise outside the room they were in. "--The staff?" He wondered lightly.

No, Remus was never, ever bothered by Sirius' need for constant motion and stimuli. He was actually often entertained and endeared by it. The need for attention was always given, even in the subtlest ways by raising an eyebrow or more obvious methods like head scratches and cuddles. He could do any of it while still managing to finish whatever chapter of whatever book he was reading.

It worked. It really, really worked. Sometimes Remus wondered if Sirius had any idea how much it meant to him that Sirius loved being around him enough to roll around by him and chatter at him and lay in his lap and prod him for attention. Because Remus really, really did love it.

He shook his head and wiped at his mouth after Sirius gave him a crumb-splattered kiss, laughing a bit as he did so. Indeed, what should they do after this? Explore, was likely the answer. This was new territory and Remus didn't feel particularly ready to look for a way back just yet. "Yes, let's grab some culinary supplies, then maybe explore a bit and--" He too heard the clatter as he dropped a set of pans into the bag.

"Possibly." Remus was folding down the flap of his bag and securing it back around his shoulder. He listened a bit harder, hoping his heightened hearing might pick up on something else as his hand found its way to the handle of his wand in his pocket. He hoped to not have to use it. "Sirius," he whispered. "I think we should go."

With Galen a little more settled after everything, Barbara wanted to take Dick through the doors. Now that they weren't over run with kids and teens, and when she'd peered through and seen what looked like a nice big hotel, she thought it would be the perfect place for them - both to show off how cool the doors could be, and maybe because she liked the idea of being in a place like this with Dick.

It was - she still couldn't believe he was actually there with her, and even with the different dimension or universe thing, he was still her Dick and that was all that mattered.

So she'd grabbed his hand and told him they were going through together, grabbing her backpack on the way out, just to be sure she had a place to put anything they might want to bring back. "You're going to love it, Dick." She promised him. "It was snowing in there." And sure it was getting colder in town, it hadn't snowed yet though, and Barbara had always thought there was something kind of magical about snow, especially like this - when you were in town where there was none and you could just walk through a door and find yourself in what amounted to a winter wonderland.

"How cool is this?" She held her arms out spinning just a little bit in the wide open lounge they'd come into.

After a stint of looking after kids and being the town big brother, Dick was ready for a break. He liked it, of course, that had become his calling in life just as much as fighting the good fight in Gotham but it did bring back some memories and make him miss Tim a bit. Thank god for Barbara. Having her there made all the difference in the world and kept him from going a bit wonky with so much free time and not so much crime fighting.

Speaking of. Barbara had informed him of a place she'd found that was beautiful and cozy and somewhere they could maybe spend a little time away from the day in, day out routine of Starklandia. He didn't dislike the town or its people at all, but there was nothing wrong with a little time to themselves in a wintery setting with actual amenities.

Snow was beautiful. At least, it was beautiful when it first fell and remained untouched. Once cars and people ran over it and it got all slushy and icy that was gross. But this? This place? It was that soft snow that if you were silent you could actually hear it hit the ground and it made the softest little chiming sound. He liked that.

Dick squeezed her hand and looked all around. Yeah, the lounge was great but the girl spinning around in it was greater. It read on his face. "The coolest," he said, his smile tugging up into a grin as he approached her and spun her around to join in the joy she was exuding right now. "You definitely set the bar high for future getaways."

"Maybe when winter does actually set in, in town, we can find a beach. Now that would be kind of amazing." She was picturing it already, even while she was thinking about how nice a place like this could be too. But when Dick spun around with her, her mind was entirely here in this moment and in this place. She laughed wrapping an arm over his shoulders keeping him close.

"I'm sure you'll be able to find something just as amazing in the future." She teased him, after all it was how they worked right? Pushing one another, in all the right kind of ways. Dick pushing her to be better, stronger, brave, and Dick - she pushed him too, to remain himself despite everything, to fight for something good, to be every bit the amazing man she knew him to be. And maybe that didn't directly translate to picking locations through the doors but she could draw a parallel there if she wanted.

"Come on, I want to see if we can find a good room, I'm not sure anyone else is here." Which really only made the whole thing that much better - being alone with Dick in a place like this. Where they could just bask in it for a little while until they ended up back in town.

The doors really were a mystery. Being able to open one into a Dave & Busters, an endless void, a gas station convenience store, a hotel like this? It was so random, but that was kind of thrilling, wasn't it? Dick didn't take it for granted or let himself become too lax with it. He knew there were could be dangers; that was why he usually took a weapon or two tucked into his pants or his shoe or wherever. This place that Babs had found was definitely the best so far.

"I love the faith that you have in me," he said with a laugh. Pushing each other came naturally to them, always had. She'd always helped him maintain his morale. She helped him not to go into that dark place that always seemed to be right there; where Bruce often retreated. Dick did not want to go down that path, and he hadn't. He found it so much more rewarding to turn the other way, toward her.

"Then we should find the best room," he said. Dick kept hold of her hand as they started walking. "It is.. kinda weird though, right? That we don't see anyone?"

She grinned, faith in him was one thing she had in excess - it didn't matter what was happening, it didn't matter the odds Barbara always knew that Dick would come through in the end, whether it was finding some place maybe even better than this snowy hotel for a vacation, or it was some of the dangers they'd faced in the past. Dick was the one constant in her life, and she had a feeling he always would be.

"Yes, we should." She agreed not quite skipping as they made their way over toward where she thought the reservation desk was. A quiet place like this, she thought the very best room would definitely be available.

"It is a little weird, it doesn't seem like there is anyone around at all." She pursed her lips while looking over the counter like maybe someone was hiding back there or something like that. "Maybe it's closed?" She suggested looking back at Dick to see what he thought. "For the season maybe?" Which wasn't that strange exactly, but there should probably still be caretakers here or something like that - it wasn't like it seemed rundown exactly. Outdated yes, but not in disrepair.

One of the things had always been a constant between him and Barbara was their ability to be there for each other when it was needed. He'd always be in her corner, and he knew she'd always be in his. When push came to shove, even if they weren't romantically involved, it didn't change how he felt about having her back. They were always going to be in each other's lives, one way or another. Even here, in this town, they were from different worlds but still were brought together. It spoke volumes to Dick.

"Maybe," he agreed when she suggested it could be closed. But right, there ought to still be someone around. It looked like things had been kept up with in terms of dusting and cleanliness so someone had to be there. "Let's just.. um.. Let's just look around? If nothing else, this place looks interesting and we're due an adventure."

What had happened with James had been a fluke, Natasha decided. A one time thing that would not be repeating itself. But one bad night in a forest was not enough to keep her from exploring the doors again. Though this time she was more heavily armed than she had been before. Silly of her to go without such things, but something about the town had made her feel like she didn't necessarily need to worry about carrying around a weapon with her at all times.

Things were perhaps not quite as idyllic as she might have liked them to be. But in any case she was ready to try again, something about all of this made her feel invincible. She'd died once before and found herself here after - why should she worry about death a second time?

At least that's what she told herself as she peered through the door way a second time that week - it looked far more benign than the woods had. Warmly lit and inviting even if it was quiet. Natasha decided it was worth a look - though just before she stepped in someone else came into the house and she turned back to see a woman there she had not met.

"Are you planning on going through today?" She asked her, "Care for a little company? I was just going to see what I might find through here." She held out a hand to show off what looked to be the interior of a hotel. "I'm Natasha."

"Siri. And yes, it seems I can't stay away, no matter how alien the surroundings on the other side." She said it with a quirk of her lips, almost sarcastic even if there was a strong thread of truth there. The doors were beyond foreign; they were utterly without rhyme or reason, she swore. On the other side of the door Natasha had open, it looked like a rather plain open building. Perhaps some sort of gathering place. Of course, that didn't mean it wasn't dangerous. Siri found, regretfully, that she couldn't sense what was on the other side of the door until she was through it.

"Natasha. I don't think I had seen you around. Are you new here? Admittedly, I am not always the most social." No apology in that. With a practiced eye, Siri took in both Natasha's economy of movement and her weapons. "And from one fighter to another, I think I wouldn't mind at all if we stuck together."

Natasha laughed a little at that statement and nodded, "I know exactly what you mean." She had good reason not to go back in again, at least not for a while, considering her last trip through. The first had been benign enough, but something about ending up in a crazy forest filled with monsters straight out of a fairy tale didn't really encourage her or anyone else from going back in again. But she wasn't ready to write it off just yet, she thought maybe it was just a one time thing, after all they'd said the doors could take you anywhere. If they only ever went to places that were dangerous none of them would go through any more she was sure of that much at least.

But this looked fine, a normal enough sort of hotel by the looks of it, maybe a little bit dated. "No I don't think we've met yet." She agreed, "I'm newish, I showed up just in time for all of that excitement earlier this month." She told her, which had been an experience to be sure, not one that she thought she'd have ever had - but she was back to herself now, in her own body, as grown as she was when she had arrived here. "I think that would be a pretty good idea." She agreed. "My last time through was a little bit more exciting than I'd planned for it to be, I don't plan on being taken by surprise a second time." Which was a little unfair really, she was taken by surprise every now and again, but she had been unprepared last time, that at least wouldn't be repeated.

So with Siri's agreement that they could stick together for this, Natasha stepped through. "It's strange, how these doors work, have you been through often?" She asked looking around the room looking for potential threats as well as just taking in the view.

"I've gone through quite a few times now, although I haven't been here much longer than you. And thankfully, I stayed my own age." Siri grinned, unrepentant at her good luck. "You can't begin to imagine the pain in the ass I was as a kid. It took a lot to get me to mellow out."

Still, as they stepped through, Siri felt the change in the atmosphere almost instantly. Her smile dimmed, became a more serious mien. "I've been going through door after door to try and find something close to my world," she admitted, unclipping her saber from her belt although she didn't turn it on as yet. "In our galaxy, space travel was common, expansive. I'm a Jedi, a protector of the peace, and I was so used to missions taking me from planet to planet. To be confined to just one small town on one surface..." She shook her head. "It's been....frustrating. But these doors aren't necessarily any better." She turned carefully, her senses up as she scanned. It seemed just a general sense of malaise, of violence.

"This is not a good place," she murmured, almost resigned. "Our combined luck doesn't seem to be particularly great."

"Oh now that just makes you lucky," Natasha grinned, "All the more reason to go through with you." Sure being a kid again hadn't been terrible, but she certainly wouldn't have been eager to relive all of those years again.

But here they were stepping through the doors together and it was - well it was strange, because it seemed normal enough as far as she was concerned, a little older perhaps, but sometimes hotels could be like that, taking their time catching up, hell it could even be Russian they were always just a little bit dated when compared to the rest of the world. She saw the way Siri reached for something on her belt, Natasha didn't feel the same sort of things that Siri did, but she could take a hint. She reached for her own gun ready to use it if it became necessary.

"The doors are strange," She agreed as Siri talked while they looked around, taking it all in, "I don't really understand how they work yet, I heard they could be fun at times, but I'll be honest, that hasn't exactly been my experience just yet." Between the city she'd ended up in with Eddie, which had been fine if a bit benign, or the forest with James, which had been a little bit more harrowing than she'd planned for and then this? She failed to see how anyone would call these things fun.

Natasha pressed her lips together and frowned while Siri told her this wasn't a good place. "Maybe we should head back then?" She suggested, no sooner had the words left her mouth than the door that they'd come through swung shut. "That is exactly what I was hoping wouldn't happen."

Siri turned at the same time, looking as the door sealed itself, stifling a curse. "I was all for it," she said, dryly, gesturing at the door. "I thought, hey, we could check out a few until we found a nice beach with a minimum of deadly obstacles. Boring, perhaps, but I would have taken it." She looked back to the lobby, scanning. "The doors as of late have had....other ideas."

Stepping fully towards the lobby, she added, "I'll admit, I'm not sure why they are suddenly acting up. I've gone through a solid dozen or so and until this week, they behaved as expected. And the last time they trapped me, I couldn't tell you what made the door open again. But it did." She glanced over at Natasha. "We have to rely on that staying true."

Nothing jumped out at her in the lobby, although Siri stretched her senses to the limit. "It feels like...like death," she murmured, frowning deeply. "But I don't smell or hear anyone. Do you? Just...doors, a hallway of doors." If nothing else, perhaps one of those would open to another, less strange world.
