The Losers
He was arguing. He was totally arguing and the look that Eddie gave him let Richie know that he was on to his bullshit. If he insisted on arguing then Eddie was going to insist on doing something incredibly stupid. Like going down to the lobby and stealing every key just to show Richie that he could. This place didn't even look like it had a security system. "And I'm..." Well, he was doing his job. He was scrutinizing his surroundings. He was thinking about trends, about what he knew about hotels and hotel safety. Hotel guest safety. With keys there was a higher possibility that they could be robbed. Murder might not be as likely but robbery definitely was. Their location meant that possibility would fluctuate. "Analyzing risk." He made a face as the subject of skeevy motels was brought up again, scrunching his nose. "I don't."
Okay. Maybe they were a little creepy. They smiled in unison. They spoke at exactly the same time. Neither of them missed a beat or stumbled over a word. There was something else though. Something about them that just seemed off. Like maybe it wasn't entirely their parents' fault that they were dressed exactly alike. Maybe the girls were the monsters and they got a kick out of freaking out complete strangers waiting on the elevator. Only... that made something else stand out. "How did they know our names?" And that was enough to inspire just a little panic in him.
Of course, Richie's question caught him off guard and jarred him from that building panic. "What?" He turned to look up at the other before remembering what he'd said. "It was a joke." And, really, that was all it could be here, right? It wasn't like an orphanage was going to appear out of nowhere or random kids were going to start popping up needing adult supervision. It wasn't like Eddie could ever leave the town and return to a normal life with Richie or anyone else. He was pretty sure he'd die if he did. Neither of them needed to think about that. Eddie didn't want Richie thinking about it. So maybe a tremor of all of that ran across his face but he shrugged it off and let out a put upon sigh instead. "We haven't even discussed marriage and you want to talk kids. Unbelievable."
