I think Snape was so starved for attention he latched onto the first kind person he knew (like Harry).

Not to be mean or anything, but from what I gathered from the book, Snape was smitten with Lily from day one and she considered him a friend.

But Lily was too 'light' for Snape. Even before that fifth year incident she was frightened of Snape and the 'darkness' of his character.

Sure it was a time of war, mistrust, and people picking sides in order to survive, but still she never gave him a chance. She was prejudiced in her own way and I believe that Snape realized that (later on, maybe much later on), but she was still his first friend.

And to be responsible for her death (by way of telling the overheard prophecy) would cause guilt to eat at him for the rest of his life. Can you imagine that an overheard conversation that a person tells someone in order to get in good with them ends up being vital information that costs the person's friend their life? How could anyone live with that guilt?

He even went so far as to beg Dumbles to provide them shelter (which to be fair the guy did do...but he knew their was a traitor in the Order as well (I wonder if he thought it was Neville who was the child of prophecy at that time)) and to beg his Master (or other Master) to save the life of his friend. Yet, she still dies and now the one man he trusted to save her is telling her he needs to look after the son of the man whom tortured him and married his friend...

Guilt, remorse, anger, vengeance. That's our Snape. Not just one emotion.

Harry didn't know love. Look at his own relationships. Him and Ginny...he keeps driving her away and even in the Epilogue they sound unhappy and their interactions are full of tenseness.

Then again, I knew since COS she was pairing them together (the whole prince rescues the princess syndrome (didn't Rowling KNOW ala Speed that these relationships don't last long?)) and I was fighting it.

I know she wanted it to seem that Ginny got over her crush on him and dated other boys...but it made her sound desperate as she went from one to the next and I just found it odd how romance never entered Harry's mind until sixth year with that love potion. And then once it does enter his mind, he changes his mind and dumps her (for her safety) and keeps denying being with her then in the end he relents...maybe because everyone tells him to?

Tonks and Remus...was sort of believable (they were working together on Order missions...I just find it odd how Remus or Sirius never mentioned it to Harry), but in DH, that major freak out by Remus...felt like a guy trapped by a kid in a loveless marriage.

And the way Tonks was....freeeeaky. Can someone say obsessed much?

No problem. Jump right on in, I don't mind.
