I think I see the distinction--and yes, I almost always format in a word processor.
And I'd cut-and-paste a previous cut just editing what was inside the " "--so maybe I switched from pasting from a previous POST to pasting from a previous DOCUMENT, and the document had the slanty quotes.
Because you're quite right, I hadn't known the difference--I mean, quotation marks are quotation marks, right, MY eyes don't care whether they're straight or curved.
Whew. At least now I have something to try the next time I post (not to mention remembering your tip of checking back the post itself not just the preview, Sylvanawood).
