So while I may think that Snape should have been shown enlisting someone in the school like McGonagal or even Slughorn I can't write that into the story. Whatever Severus' alternate plan, it would never have involved a human staff-member. They were not supposed to know his role. They did not have the power nor ability to hide it had they faced Voldemort, so as long as both Severus and Voldemort lived they could not be told, not even given a hint. (At most they could have been given the message in a form that only revealed itself after Severus' death.) The only entities Severus could have involved were the portraits and the house elves, which are magically bound to the headmaster's post, as well as the castle itself. Maybe even some of the ghosts.
