*nods* Ok. That does make more sense to me, and perhaps that was part of the mix - I can see him wanting to look impressive and learn all this supposed cool magic and all, certainly. And I can see that leading him to speculate (early on) that maybe if he can find a way to be impressive in a way that popular, rich, Quidditch-star pureblood elite scion James Potter *can't* match, maybe Lily will be a bit more receptive to another attempt to make things up to her. Something like that.
