Following bohemian_spirit's Severus Evans - An Alternative Life of Severus Snape an AU scenario in which Lily married Severus, had a boy named Harry who became (with Dumbledore's intervention) the Chosen One and following Terri's Too Much There, an AU scenario where Dumbledore chooses Severus Snape to be the messenger who is to bring Harry his acceptance letter to Hogwarts and how this changes Severus and Harry's outlook of one another I am wondering about some AU scenarios. Terri said she wasn't going to continue her story, but I am left wondering how it could have turned out. Assuming Dumbledore's agenda is the same as many of us believe it has always been in canon, and assuming Severus is commited to the safety of all Hogwarts students in general and Lily's son in particular, and assuming his interactions with Harry went as Terri portrayed them - how does Harry's first year go differently than in canon?
I can't imagine Draco trying to bully Harry and Ron out of their sweets following the way Terri had Severus defuse the Harry-Draco encounter at Madam Malkin's, but this does not mean some kind of rivalry between Draco and Harry wouldn't form anyway, especially if Harry did befriend Ron. Obviously Harry's Sorting is a key event and it could go several ways. But regardless of all this, Dumbledore would still be trying to develop Harry's adventurous side as well as antagonize him against Severus Snape, while the latter would try to keep Harry safe - and to Severus that would mean out of unnecessary adventures.
I am not a fiction writer and have no intention of writing this as a fic. I will be glad to read anything anyone might want to do with this (with acknowledgement to Terri, if you are continuing where her story ended), but I wouldn't mind just having a discussion of possibilities. Can you imagine a scenario where Harry does not go down the trapdoor at the end of his first year at Hogwarts? Can you imagine one where he goes, closely followed by an invisible Severus Snape? Something completely different? How does Dumbledore react to either of those?
