Happy New Year, Underground!
I hope it is appropriate for me to ask my fellow Snapefen whether anyone was thinking about, or had already decided to go to the Portus convention in Dallas in July, and in particular, was going to try their luck getting a ticket for Snapefest which is on the 9th July. Perhaps it is due to being a relative newcomer to the HP fandom, (I only signed on to LJ a few months ago, and before that I was chiefly a lurker on a few HP websites and listened to a couple of podcasts after HBP came out), or the fact that I have never been part of a fandom prior to this one, but I find myself gripped with a sudden urge to attend this con! Maybe I feel that after the disappointment of DH, as well as upcoming changes in my career and personal life this year, I won't keep up with HP for too much longer, and I want to experience the thing whole-heartedly with fellow enthusiasts one last time (I'm sorry if that sounds maudlin, but the end of, sorry, the "hiatus" of the Snapecast podcast was the last straw for me). I guess the fact that no-one in my family and none of my friends share my HP and especially my Snape enthusiasm, (ok obsession is the mot juste) adds to my trepidation that my Snape-filled days are numbered. Hence, I really, really wanna go to Portus and meet like-minded individuals there! I don't care if that makes me sound like a whiny kid craving a trip to Disneyland. I feel like need to do this just for me! However, I'm also fearful of going without really knowing anyone and feeling completely bewildered and lost. Worse still, I have no wish to be surrounded by DH squee-ers and JKR fangirls. So I wondered if any normal people, ahem, I mean, Snapedom members or anybody on my f-list is likely to be there too?
