For the life of me, I don't know how I missed this when it was originally posted, but I'm glad I got a chance to read it and enjoy it now. Because I did enjoy it. Immensely.
Seattle is actually one of my favorite cities in the country, and I can just imagine how easily magical and Muggle worlds would intertwine there. It's that sort of place, where even "commonplace" things seem wondrous, skewed and defiantly creative. (Surely the Experience Music Project was made possible only through magical methods!) It's a great location for Severus to heal, find himself and make all the creative connections that he does here.
I love the connection between healing and music here, because that certainly does seem to be something we glimpse in canon Severus--he's the only wizard we've ever seen who combines music and healing together into a special kind of magic. It's great to see what he might have done with that knowledge, given the chance. I'm also pleased to see him finally relaxing into his own skin, away from the mockery and unfair expectations of his past. And of course, I'm terribly amused at the idea of Severus as the inadvertent epicenter of Grunge!
I also really like the letter at the end, because it makes perfectly clear how much Severus has changed over the course of the story--and how much Lily hasn't. Severus has grown beyond that world and beyond Lily herself. They weren't a good match, which has been made evident through time and distance.
Last but certainly not least... his daughter's name is "Missy"? :D I adore you for that; I'm sure you know why.
