Re: Professor Grunge, indeed :-)

You know, I kept mulling over the genius of your whole music/magic, wand/baton, defense against dark arts/anti-bullying combination. I got to thinking about Snape's counter-spell for Sectumsempra being "sung" -- even though there's no music in the Hogwarts curriculum. So it's interesting that it would be Snape connecting magic with music.

In your story, you have Snape using his wand as a baton, waving it at the piano to play the starting chord. Now, he learned music at college from Muggles (or mostly), but as soon as he started using his wand as a baton, there must have been a lot of magic flying around when he conducted, no? I'm trying to imagine all the kinds of cross-over spells there could be! Not just sung charms like the Sectumsempra healing, but charmed singing.

There's wonderful unmapped terrain here... JKR missed out on this one! (But she may be one of those people who are so common since the 60's - listening to bands, maybe even playing in one, but never actually studying music.) Tiranog's "Stitch in Time" stories come to mind, but I can't think of any other fics off-hand that play off the close similarities between magic charms and musical charm, spoken spells and sing-spiels.

Are there many other HP fics in which the magic/music interplay is really explored? (As in the similarity you point to, not simply Snape-is-in-a-band fics.)

Cool move. Very thought-provoking (in with the funneh) - and thus, very typically you.
