I will have to reply to comments on my essay another day--running out of library time, here!--but I did want to let you know that the issues you cover in this post touch on what I was getting at with my post: that the prejudices regarding wizarding and non-wizarding people in the Potterverse have their own distinctive history and rationales. They can be compared to racism in our own world, but I don't think they should be called "racism," because that tends to confuse the two scenarios. Blood prejudice in the WW and racism in our own world are similar but distinct forms of social prejudice. We can draw analogies, but I don't think we should treat them as one and the same thing.
