I have to admit that I was surprised to realize you had been around for such a long time. Though I hear a lot of people talk about (justifiably) feeling over-looked, both artists and writers. It does seem fandom remembers a few names (also well-deserved) and don't quite mention the others. I think that may be one of the downsides of having a fandom filled with so many talented people.
I will say that more people comment to me on LJ than IJ. But I think it's because most of the people who have me friended on IJ also have me friended on LJ and read at both places. And they just end up commenting on whichever flist where they see the post first. But the people who only have me friended at LJ don't follow IJ and only have me friended there. So if they are going to comment, it has to at LJ. I just know I really wish fandom wasn't so fractured. I actually like DW in terms of service (as a mod, it's hard to beat that 50K posting limit), but I wouldn't care where fandom ended up if they just picked one place. Until then, though, I'm at all three places.
