SNARRY-A-THON10: ART: When Duty's Done
Title: When Duty's Done
Artist: [info]veridian_dair
Rating: G
Media: Photoshop CS3, graphic tablet
Warning(s): None
Prompt: Wild Card #1
Summary: "In war, there are no unwounded soldiers." ~ José Narosky
A/N: Not a fan of canon's version of the final battle against Voldemort, I have always wanted to paint a different outcome (with a Snarry spin, naturally). Voldemort is still dead at Harry's hand, but instead of an immediate celebration I can envision Harry following that moment in another way. Overcome by the act he was destined to commit, surrounded by the deaths that have occurred that night and in disbelief that he and Severus survived the final encounter with Voldemort...together...he slumps to the ground overwhelmed with emotion, Severus holding him tight. Of course, Severus took care of that damn snake earlier. *g* Thank you to my accomplices [info]accioslash and [info]leela_cat on this piece - you were terrific sounding boards and gave me some wonderful ideas to work with and incorporate into this piece. Long live the Snarry!

How do you do that?!?! It's just so amazing, you know I love everything of yours and this is just so full of powerful emotions. It's obvious that Harry's crying but the way Severus is holding him, you know just how relieved and how much he loves Harry.

You've done it again, I bow down to you ;D and you know this has given me an itch to write :D Just amazing as always, so love this.

This is gorgeous. You've captured that moment when it's all over and done with, and they've won, but all Harry can do is think about what they've lost.

This is lovely. I like the Mosmordre in the background and how their arms are positioned. The tear on Harry's face is nicely understated.

This is breathtakingly beautiful: their expressions, Severus's hold on Harry, the remnants of the battle ... everything is beautifully captured. This will go onto my list of art that I really, really like :-)

Emotional and beautiful,
and more likely than wandering off in search of a sandwich.
Good work.

I do like your take so much better. For some reason I got the sense that JK wanted to just be done with the whole thing as there were so many loose or weird decisions. Like Felaine said - 'in search of a sandwich'? Reminds me of a line I heard somewhere about the war being lost for want of a shoe. Never cared for the "after battle" scenes nor for Snape dying from a snake bite (like he wouldn't have seen that coming!)

The art is breathtaking. Harry's tear, Severus soothing and longing hold on him, the Dark Mark breaking apart in the background...just wonderful work.

Hey is this your entry #4 or have I mistaken some of the art pieces for someone else's.... Looking at this, I almost want to cry along with Harry. Their expressions are really...um, expressive? I'm sure you know what I mean even if I lack words right now. They look exhausted, stunned, traumatized, but currently still in shock, this is all visible on their faces. The surroundings are just right, they really are saying the aftermath not just of a battle, but of a magical battle. And on top of it all, Harry and Snape look so loving and intimate together. I love it, great work.

Absolutely amazing how you capture such feelings and emotions! You are an incredibly talented artist! I love the bold color and the blending of the background and the crispness of the foreground! Brilliant!

I like the 'freedom isn't free' message, that Harry cries, and Snape comforts him just by being there. You've really been prolific, you ninja artist.

So beautiful, I love Harry's tear and the dark mark in the sky just blowing away... Harry just has the most perfect sad expression, but Severus is holding him tight, so it will be ok. They have beautiful hands too. Wow. :D
