“I told you they’d like you,” Septima murmured to Severus as they wandered from tree to tree. It was a clear, cold night, with so many stars one could almost see colors. “Solving that equation impressed everyone, even the elves.”

“No wonder you’re so good at arithmancy,” he murmured back, giving her hand a little squeeze as they watched her parents choose a beautifully shaped evergreen. “Your family is remarkable, albeit rather intense.”

“We do have our quirks.” Septima drew her wand and joined in the spell that would detach the tree from its stump. “Ready, darling? One, two, three….”
