Note: this is a prequel of sorts to Motherless Child, in which Snape and Lupin marry and adopt a child. This takes place before the series begins, soon after the end of the first war against Voldemort. Warning for some very nasty attitudes and language.
Pride Day had been long, exhausting, and surprisingly informative; Severus had taken literature from a dozen activists and planned to research each one thoroughly when he got back to Hogwarts. Lupin had proved a remarkably agreeable companion, albeit a bit chatty.
Now they sat on the steps of St. Martin-in-the-Fields watching Muggle street sweepers clean up the mess left by the crowds. Lupin rubbed one knee, wincing slightly. “Hungry? I know a - “
“Fuckin' poofs.” A bitter, balding Muggle sneered at them both. “Nearly as bad as the fuckin' Pakis. Geroff now and leave the decent folk alone!”
