Note: this is a prequel of sorts to Motherless Child, in which Snape and Lupin marry and adopt a child. This takes place before the series begins, soon after the end of the first war against Voldemort. Warning for some very nasty homophobic attitudes and language.
The crowd cheered as the speaker switched to something called “Deep Ecology” that seemed to be more mysticism than anything else. Severus, who prided himself on being one of the rare wizards who relied on logic rather than ancient tradition, was about to turn away when the speaker said, “And ask yourself – why are there are fewer patches of gillyweed? Why are the kelpies disappearing from Ireland? Look around you! What is going on? More important, what can we do to help?”
“Gillyweed?” He frowned at Lupin, who'd nodded. “What?”
“It's endangered, Severus,” said the other man.
