The invitation was on 100% linen rag paper the color of fresh cream. The text (all in flawless classical Latin) was calligraphed by a master, who'd added a column of illuminated alembics, cauldrons, and famous alchemists to the left. The pigments were all of the quality: ultramarine, vermillion, orpiment and lead white, powdered lake from cochineal and indigo.
It was a true work of art, and if it were not for the snobbishness that all but dripped from the entire production, the invitation to join the likes of Damocles Belby would have been one of the pinnacles of Severus' career.
