The new Muggle Studies teacher was young, bright-eyed, and eager to learn everything she could about Hogwarts. Severus was stiffly correct in his dealings with her – she was nearly young enough to be his daughter, which was mildly terrifying – and they got along well enough for the first week of their acquaintance.
Unfortunately for both of them, she proved allergic to half the components in the Potions storeroom. She was also slightly claustrophobic, which Severus found out when he brought her to the Slytherin Common Room and she fainted at the sight of fish swimming past the window.
