The first latkes were delicious with a dab of applesauce from the Magically Delicious apples Neville had imported. By the time the baby had wakened and started fussing for his own supper, the house was clean and quiet.
Later, after John had been put to bed, Remus insisted on going downstairs “to check on something.” Severus was on the verge of checking on him when he returned, a plate of fresh latkes and appropriate condiments in one hand.
“Happy Hanukkah, love,” Remus murmured, smiling softly.
“Indeed,” Severus said, and cut off a forkful to dip in the sauce.
