Severus shivered as the Sorting Hat sifted through his mind. “I'm not ashamed of who I am.”
“That's a fact,” said the Hat. “Let's see...bravery, oh yes. Ambitious, too, not that I've ever met a poor child who wasn't, with the brains to go far. Loyal to your friends...hmm, maybe Hufflepuff?”
Severus gasped, unable to stop himself from glancing over at the bright flash of Lily's hair at the Gryffindor table. “No! It has to be Gryffindor!”
“You're certain of that? You're a Prince, which - “
“Please,” he whispered.
