Severus excised as much of Carrow's curriculum as he could on the grounds of safety. “There are so few Purebloods left, Amycus,” he'd said when Carrow threatened to tell the Dark Lord. “Some of these proposals are hazardous for adults, let alone children. Their potential needs to be developed, not blighted.”
Carrow had complained, but after Lucius Malfoy (father of one, husband to a wife too old for more) agreed with Severus, he withdrew his objections.
It was a holding action at best, but what else could Severus do?
