If Severus had ever truly believed that Wizards were superior to Muggles, five minutes' acquaintance with Amycus Carrow had changed his mind. Asthmatic, unintelligent, obsessed with pain – even for a Death Eater he was appalling, and Severus had tried to talk the Dark Lord out of naming him to the faculty. “It will be difficult enough to bring the school up to scratch as it is,” he'd said. “Neither Carrow has the correct qualifications to teach.”
“Then you will have to teach them,” the Dark Lord had said, and tossed a slab of stolen meat to his snake.
