The dealer finished making change for the girl who’d just bought a matched set of Coalport vases before looking up. The newcomer was thin, with long black hair, a sharp nose, and a grim expression. “The black cabinets? Got ‘em in an estate sale in Kent, family wasn’t interested.”
He shrugged. “Ugly things, aren’t they? The wife wouldn’t let me bring ‘em inside, so here they are. “
“Interesting,” said the customer. He lightly ran his fingertips over the dark veneer. “What’s the best you can do on them?”
