Challenge: vanishing cabinets

The cabinet looked quite normal in Severus’ living room; darkly veneered, with varnish dull and cracked with age, it fit right in with the rest of the frumpy, dusty furniture he’d inherited from his Muggle relatives. Its twin, equally dark and neglected, stood unnoticed in the room he used in his quarters as a study. Co-workers and students assumed that, like so much else in the suite, it had been passed down from one Potions Master to the next.
They were his secret, his ace in the hole, his hedge against disaster. And no one knew their origin except him.
