The branches from a winter-killed tree have great power.
Few know this, for few remember the old ways. But a potions master, one who must work with nature every day, will know how to harvest the branches, the leaves, the knots and bark and frozen sap. All have their value, all have their uses, and all are valuable.
The problem is finding an appropriate tree. They are rare in the British Isles, and imported components are expensive.
This is why Severus was so happy to hear of the tree while on a visit to his mother-in-law in the United States.
