Title: Auld Lang Syne, I
Challenge: New Year’s
Word Count: 100
The first New Year’s after the War was a subdued affair. Too many deaths, too many losses – joining the happy revelers milling about Diagon Alley or Warboys Square would have felt like a betrayal of those who had given their all in the final battle.
He wasn’t alone in this; Minerva, now headmistress since Severus had claimed his war injuries pained him too much to supervise the whole school, had invited a small group to her rooms for a meal and a toast. It was much quieter, and calmer, and more adult.
The memories still ached like a bad tooth.
