Remus fed his son, bathed him and put him to bed, and then ate a cold supper by himself. He had showered, read a couple of chapters of his latest book, and was on the verge of dousing the candle and going to bed when the floo chimed in the tone they'd selected for Severus.

He laid the book aside as Severus slowly climbed the stairs. Neither spoke until Severus had set down his briefcase, stripped off his outer clothing, and sat down on the edge of the bed.

"Well?" said Remus at last.

"It should work," said Severus. "Probably."
