On the surface it was nothing but the usual Slytherin gossip and gamesmanship, coupled with Madame Zabini's latest paramour making some unfortunate remarks to the press. But the undercurrents were ominous, and the mere fact that Zabini had come forward with his concerns hinted at the boy's true loyalties.
Severus steepled his fingers and considered. He was taking a risk, yes, but he could always Obliviate the boy. And if he was right, the intelligence would be priceless.
He fixed his gaze on Zabini's dark, intelligent eyes. "Fascinating information," he said at last. "Tell me, what else have you heard?"
