Dippet's records gave no clue as to who had owned The Passion of St. Simon Magus prior to its acquisition by Hogwarts, nor which member of the Board of Governors had paid for it. As far as the art world knew, it was a lesser work of Hieronymous Bosch that had vanished sometime in 1941 and was known only through copies.
