Severus brushed dispiritedly at his robes. It had taken almost half an hour to calm the cats, after which Minerva had helpfully loaned him a book on raising kittens. "You'll need it in two months," she'd assured him, eyeing the sated tabbies sprawled about the room.
That she was correct didn't solve the problem of who had sent him two dozen moggies (and two dozen small, yappy dogs) in the first place.
Lupin denied it, and unless he'd robbed a bank to pay for them, he was probably telling the truth. But if not him, who? And more important, why?
