If the dog was awake and alert, the odds that someone had actually managed to get to the Stone were minimal. Quirrell had acted peculiar this afternoon, but even if he was fool enough to brave Cerberus - he would not call it Fluffy! - being unconscious in the Great Hall precluded him being conscious enough to make an attempt.
The middle head growled. Snape raised his hands to show he meant no harm and took a cautious step forward. The Stone was safe, but surely the creature wouldn't care if he sampled its wastes for use in potions research…
