Foolishness. All was foolishness. In the end it didn’t matter what anyone believed. Belief just wasn’t enough when you don’t have the strength to follow through. Everything he had been taught to believe, his parents, his friends, ones he loved – all gone. Or nearly so. In one final act of cruelty (oh they just felt so typically justified in doing so) he was sat to watch as the last of his compatriots received the Kiss, one by one. Their screams, and those of the ones gone before, echoed through his head. And, as his own terror thickened and his eyes blurred with tears as his turn came, his heart heavy with despair, his final thoughts of “foolishness, all is foolishness” followed him into oblivion.
For next week I tag bslehofer with the prompt of "You want me to what?!" with an optional Halloween theme. Thanx and have fun.
