Title Autumn
A/N enchanted_jae wanted me to write something for autumn. Since I spent ten hours at school today with nothing to do, I had lots of time to work out lots of ideas. This is my favorite.
I hope it satisfies...
There are leaves on the ground, dancing around your feet in quiet rebellion against the wind. They are red and yellow, orange and brown and they reminde you of curses and jinxes of Crucio and boil hexes.
Of magic and childhood and death.
The wind whistles through the trees of the Forbidden Forest, which has fallen silent long ago. It catches your hair and takes the memories away like leaves. It's sharp and cold.
There's a gentle fog drifting above the tree tops, just enough to blur the sun and paint the sky a forlorn grey.
The sounds from behind you, in front of you carry endlessly and too loud in the silence. The whole world is to big and too empty.
Beyond the Main Gate, just two steps and one spell sway from you black cloaks and white masks gear for the last attack, the last battle, the last kills.
Too many died already, but this is war and people die in war because they want to live. The sounds from behind you are a sickly mixture of late night anxiousness and fear. for the Death Eaters this is the last attack. For you this is the last stand.
Most of those behind you are students, children that want too live more than they want to be safe. They yearn to walk their world without fear and for that they are willing to sacrifice everything. They are all there, Neville with his arm in a cast, Luna, Hermione mumbling spells under her breath, Ron, Ginny the twins.
They'll fight alongside you and you want to believe that they will win. They deserve it. All of them do.
Draco's beside you, his hand brushing against your as the sounds beyond the Gate die down. They are coming. Death is coming to your school tonight and it will eat children.
The Slytherin takes a careful step closer and asks, "Are you ready?"
You shake your head and say, "No."
He shudders, checks to make sure his wand is still where he put it, seconds ago. Hermione stops mumbling and Ron hugs his sister.
Draco repeats, voice unchanged, "Are you ready?"
You take a breath, feel the wind through your hair, the leaves at your feet and the fear behind you. YOu feel the hate beyond the Gate and the weight of the world on your shoulders.
You shake your head and say, "I am."
For next week I tag blaithacs, please leave a comment if you accept. Your prompt is Another Try in any way you choose.
Have fun.
