Ooh, I especially like the idea of a non-military character against a soldier! It'd be an interesting dynamic between someone who has to tolerate the stigma that came with not going to war, and someone who actively fought. A male nurse or doctor jumps out at me the most.
If you're open to suggestions, this is maybe a bit of an odd one, but I've always loved the idea of setting a line in the Channel Islands during the years it was occupied. You know, to play through the Germans invading and taking over, then the uprising tension between them and the islanders, maybe some scheming and attacks and escape attempts along the way. It would provide so much plot to play through. Possibly a line between two islanders who start to feel differently about their occupiers, or a German/islander line for some extra forbidden tension. It's just an idea though, and I'd still like to plot up something else if that doesn't appeal.
