I'm looking to write a line set in a medieval setting. Arthurian or even entirely made-up worlds is totally fine. We can worldbuild together. But I love writing about princes and their duty to their people, the sort of responsibility they hold and also the political intrigue and courtly disputes that are happen in their everyday lives while they negotiate peace treaties and plan defences for their kingdom against external (and internal) threats to the throne. This here is Leandir who is a young prince coming of age in a kingdom where power has been held by his uncle the Regent for the last six years. When he turns of age (which we can decide what that is amongst ourselves), that power is supposed to return to him. But of course, his Uncle isn't quite ready to give it all up yet.
There are a few ways this could go: Your character is a PRINCE from a foreign kingdom, ending up in Leandir's kingdom for any number of reasons: a secret recon trip, a hunting expedition gone awry, an assassination attempt that led to yours running to a different kingdom for his life, a competitor to the throne removing your prince from the picture by kidnapping and sending your prince far away. I would prefer for the two princes to be from warring kingdoms to add to the potential tension in the line, but this isn't strictly necessary either as long as we can come up with enough plot to explore between them. They cross paths somehow and Leandir eventually ends up helping your prince back to his kingdom/his throne with an alliance formed between the two, working together against the Regent and also possibly against whoever plotted against your prince in the first place to send him to a foreign land.
Your character is a KNIGHT/GENERAL from the same kingdom. Or even a HIGH PRIEST/SORCERER. Leandir's allies in the kingdom are few. Many think him young and untried. The Regent presents, seemingly, a much better alternative ruler. Many, including the Regent, would like things to stay the way they are. But your character is fiercely loyal to the throne, and even though you don't think much of Leandir himself, you knew his brother and his father before that and they were good rulers who don't deserve to have their legacy usurped by the Regent. When the Regent's attempted treachery becomes more and more obvious and morphs into outright assassinations and forceful removal of power, you extend a helping hand to the prince and work with him against the Regent to wrest power and rule of the kingdom back to where it belongs.
I have been writing on IJ for many years and writing something good and fulfilling is my main aim here. I love the slowburn of two characters getting to know each other before feelings develop. I especially love it if it all happens against all odds and despite their circumstance. If they perhaps start off hating each other but owing to everything they go through together, start realising the importance of each other in their lives. But above all, I also want to tell a story—to explore how the characters go through the trials and tribulations and grow as people, and possibly fall for each other along the way. The journey should be painful, the characters will be put through hell. But it's a good kind of angst that they have to work through to emerge older and wiser. Plot > romance > smut tbh. I write in third person, threads or gdocs.
Leandir is young, but he is a strong character with a very firm idea of what it means to be a prince to his people. He isn't afraid of hardship. He is also intensely private and doesn't trust easily. He's had to guard against the Regent for so many years, been tested so many years that this is probably only to be expected. But he has his heart in the right place and always puts his people above his own welfare. You're more likely to get into his good books if you respect his people than if you fawn on him.
I'm not looking to write characters in pre-defined roles like top/bottom or anything in the a/b/o dynamic. And I'm not fussed about things like PBs either. But I AM looking to write him against another strong character who won't be afraid to point out to Leandir sometimes that his constant scheming against his uncle is consuming his life or that he needs to start trusting people again because he can't do everything on his own, no matter how much he wants to believe he can. Basically someone who finds themselves wanting to get to know Leandir, and will stand up to him and try to help him to the best of his ability at the same time.
I am a fairly active tagger and you can usually expect at least a tag a day from me with more on weekends/off days. I put in as much as I get from you for the line and I believe in communicating with my line partners to build something that we both want to write together, which means that I will tell you if something isn't my cup of tea and I expect you to do the same.
Congrats for reading through everything above and also thank you. If it sounds at all like what you'd be interested in, please drop me a comment here or in my dropbox. Comments are screened.
