"There are reports of Dark Spawn in the Hinterlands, near Redcliffe. Investigate these reports, and see if there is any truth to these rumours."
It takes 3-4 days to reach Redcliffe. Largely dependant on whether you ride, or walk there. Which I think most characters going would be comfortable with? You will also be escorting the mage (Oliver Hewitt) on loan from Arl Teagaon back to Redcliffe Castle, where you may also witness the reunion of Alistair with his Uncle. The mage will then be sent to assist you in your search of the Hinterlands. Which means any major injuries can be taken care of by magical healing.
Once there, the team will be split into two groups, one led by Sereda and one by Alistair, since they're covering quite a large area. They will run into a few pockets of darkspawn across the Hinterlands, and after a couple of days, will find a few cracks and entrances that lead to the deep roads. Which can be sealed by magic, or earth-bending, or probably the Force.
For those who haven't played Dragon Age, info about darkspawn is here. There's links to each of the different types at the bottom. The most common are hurlocks and genlocks. But, you'll also find a couple of shrieks and ogres.
Anyway, other than the above, feel free to come up with any extras you want to do. There can also be some locals asking for assistance, in the usual RPG side-quest manner. So, delivering something to somewhere.
In addition, they will be able to stay at Redcliffe Castle for a night or two, while exploring the Hinterlands closer to the village. Because Teagan may be rather fond of Sereda and Alistair.
