He managed a smile, but didn't think he'd bother pointing out his work was around the city. He guessed in an emergency they might come up here, and hey, winter was coming. Bad ice storms could pull down powerlines; he'd seen that first hand up in Canada. He didn't know how bad it got down here, but he guessed he'd find out unless they managed to find a way out before then.
He wasn't really holding his breath on that end.
"Couldn't the people in the house take care of it if you did vanish back home?" Maybe that was how it was going to happen -- the people who'd just shown up would vanish, and the people who'd walked in could walk out.
