A bunch of people from work had thrown Dominic (from appliances) a surprise party for his twenty-third birthday. The whole thing had been orchestrated by Annie. She was not only a fan of parties, but also of excuses that allowed her to see Frank outside of work. Which was why Rose wasn't that surprised when Annie had pulled her aside during a verse of 'Hippy Hippy Shake' with the news that in her effort to get everything ready (which really meant buy the perfect outfit), she had forgotten a few items. Like the ice cream and so could Rose please go get some. Just as she was putting on her coat Annie requested soda. She was stopped for the final time by the stairs. She needed more dip for the veggie platter.
Rose managed to get out the door after that so it was impossible to say if Annie had remembered anything else she had forgotten. Still. She grabbed a couple bags of crisps upon arriving at the market anyway. They were on sale so why not.
She went for the ice cream next. She pushed her cart around an intoxicated fellow on the way and gave a cheery hello as she passed a young man picking out milk. Her plan, as she came to a stop in front of the proper cooler, was to get a few cartons of Neapolitan. A mix of strawberry, chocolate, and vanilla and therefore a little something for everyone. Naturally, they didn't have it. “Oh, I do love when the one time you want something,” said Rose, her voice laced with mock annoyance, “it's the one time they actually don't have it.”
