"Yeah, I'm all right," Locke assured her as he picked himself up and dusted himself down, as he always did when he fell. "Sorry for keeping you from your book. It's all good now!" He was beaming as if to prove this while he returned to his seat and then to his friend laughing at him.

"For being the so-called world's greatest adventurer, you sure fell down gracefully, Locke."

"Hey," he shot forward again -- successfully, this time -- and jutted a finger to his friend's direction, "I'll have you know that if that had been from a tree, I'd have dropped on two feet!"

His friend pointed to the woman behind them. "I bet she can do that, too."

Locke looked over his shoulder. He was loathe to disturb her -- again -- from her book but there was a quality to her that appealed to the lonely, he felt...

"Can you?" he asked eventually. Why it was important to know who can drop on two feet, Locke would never know.
