He raised an eyebrow at the young woman's ready assumption that he was amongst those trapped in the general area of the city. The Doctor hadn't had much contact with misplaced individuals whose lives hadn't intersected with his at some point in his own universe. He realized now that it was an oversight on his part. He should have made a greater effort to become familiar with those drawn to the city who might have no connections to him at all.

"That's good," he found himself saying, "that you aren't alone. Well, maybe not good, precisely, since that means yet another person who doesn't belong here is trapped, but good that you're not completely on your own, definitely. I tried that, not long ago. Being on my own. Bad idea. Very, very bad idea. Still ... Well. I'm hardly alone here, am I? Even if I didn't know anyone, seems more than a few of us don't quite belong, doesn't it?"
